| Jens Hykkelbjerg
| Reject Map Builder rebuilds the reject data in PWADs, which is used to determine line-of-sight calculations made by the DOOM engine. This can speed up your levels in many instances, particularly if they're rather monster-laden. Supports HERETIC and HEXEN as well, and
also provides for special effects.

Reject |

L.M. Witek |
Less-powerful, though no-less-handy utility for quickly setting the Reject data. Good for running in a batch file for quick PWAD testing.

The fastest nodes builder in town. Period. ZenNode now builds a "perfect" REJECT resource. You can also configure it to modify the BSP nodes tree according to your specifications - and it supports HEXEN.

EnDoomer

| Zink the Dink
| Edits the ENDOOM (end credits) data. I like this better than TED, since it has one or two extra options and a host of sample files. I haven't seen an update to this in quite a while, but I don't know how it could be improved, actually. Check it out.

DOOM LineDef Reference by
Type, Function, and Number, with Design Notes, v1.0,
by Jim F. Flynn. This text reference contains all of the
DOOM 1.666 engine's LineDef tag references, including those mysterious
specials 666 and 667. The zipfile contains several text sections
with LineDefs broken down separately by Function and Number and
Design Notes; the main text is a compilation of all by Type. WadRefr.ZIP (28k).
Unofficial DOOM Specs v1.666 by
Matthew S. Fell is the definitive reference for DOOM Guru
wannabes. DMSpec16.ZIP (60k).
DOOM Design FAQ v1.2 by
Tom Neff answers everything you've always wanted to know
about "The Medusa Effect," "Tutti-Frutti,"
"HOM," and other PWAD gremlins (but were afraid to ask).
This is an excellent and indispensable troubleshooting guide.
Design12.ZIP (28k).
Managing Textures and the "Unpegged" Attribute by
Scott Amspoker. This is the classic reference for keeping
those textures aligned, particularly upper and lower textures,
and how to use the "pegged/unpegged" attributes judiciously.
Textures.ZIP (5k).
DOOM Metrics by
Scott Amspoker gives you the heights and widths (in pixels)
of monsters, including minimum clearances and other physical limits
of the DOOM engine. Metrics.ZIP (4k).
DOOM Network Troubleshooting Guide
by Murray Chapman, and an Addendum
by Conan the Librarian. How to set up DOOM on an IPX dedicated
Network (meaning: no Novell, LANtastic, etc - only your Ethernet
cards and some cable). NetHowTo.ZIP (11k).
HEXEN Specs v0.9 (60k)
by Ben Morris contains almost everything you want to know
about HEXEN.
WAD Authoring Template v1.4.
This is the official and standard text file template to include
with your PWADs. This is also the file that you upload with your
MYWAD.ZIP as MYWAD.TXT so that folks know whether or not your
level is worth downloading. Wad_Auth.ZIP (1k).
The DEU Beginner's Guide
by Blackfist (a.k.a. Rich Dersheimer) is still (in my mind)
the best beginner's guide to learning PWAD construction. Although
implicitly a guide to using DEU (and therefore DETH), this tutorial
is handy for anyone wishing to understand the extreme fundamentals
of Vertices, LineDefs, and Sectors (including sectors-within-sectors).
DEUBegin.ZIP (34k)
The Wad Designer's Handbook by
Bill J. McClendon. Excellent guide, including links to
other stuff.
Doom Help Service
by Ian C. R. Mapleson, Coordinator of rec.games.computer.doom.help.
