  6. One to Die For

Another single player wad file. I wanted to try some new concepts, and make a transparent door.. it worked! It's fairly large, and makes use of tag 666. *Both* ways to use 666 in Doom2. It should be very playable, and all the stuff is there for deathmatch. I limited the DM starts to 2 areas, as it is fairly spread out, and 2 people would have a hard time finding each other.

  7. The four Faces

Very large DOOM II wad, with lots of monsters, little ammo/medipacks and great deathmatch capabilities. I designed it to be a lot of fun in single player mode, but kept in mind that it ultimatly should become a deathmatch wad.

I created a 'circular' shaped map, with one central point, and the three keys hidden around this point. All keys are needed to reach the exit, but its not necessary to first find a certain key before another one can be found. Just collect all three. No hard puzzles should be solved to find the keys/exit (all doors hiding the keys are automati- cally opened when you get close!), but it is necessary to go around the central point to get them, and that's the hard part ;-) Because all rooms can be reached in many different ways, and have nice ambush spots it's great fun to play deathmatch, although the map is too large for a two-player deathmatch, I guess. A lot of time was spend on choosing the correct texture and aligning them, because I hate it when a level doesn't look good.

I think its a tough level, but playable. Tough, not because there are 20 cyberdemons etc. No cyberdemons, no spiderboss! Just a few large bosses and lots of imps, sargeants etc.

I created this level myself, but if I want to go around and kill all monsters as fast as possible, it takes me at least 10-15 minutes to reach the exit!

  9. 99 Ways to Die

3 level WAD set in a castle environment. Excessive attention given to the appearence of the levels (texture selection, alignment, lighting, etc...), but game play does not suffer (some great battle areas!).

I use a P90 machine, so I imagine some areas may run slowly on underpowered machines.

  12. The Matrix

This level is for DOOM 2 Level 07. I chose level 7 because it has my favorite music in the game. This is NOT a sloppy level, no fuckups, it was nodes built perfectly, all textures are aligned (at least the really noticable ones, I didn't really feel like driving my self insane!). This is also an extremely complex and compact level and is very large.

  13. 10-Level Wad (10levels.zip)

A 10-level DOOM II adventure with new original music. 10 original levels. (Version 1.01) Wind your way through tunnels and buildings with each level increasing in difficulty. There are puzzles to solve and mazes to follow. Levels 8 & 9 are designed after an actual building. Be careful - as you gain experiance, the medkits and ammo start to get scarce!

  18. R A G N A R O K

Ragnarok: The final fight between Good and Evil in the Nordic mythology (didn't want to write a long story...).

I wanted to create some special architecture with this level - I really hate those WOLF3D like level "designs" (and ROTT, too...). But this is my very first level, so have mercy! Please send me an E-mail for any comments to this WAD.

The level works with DOOM ][ only, but the sound extension "RAGNASND.WAD" should run under DOOM I, too. This level was specially created for use with my sound WAD "RAGNASND.WAD" (including some industrial and ritual sound). However, this one is separately available (ragnasnd.zip), for those with slower connections. But downloading it is strongly recommended!

For maximum effect, don't use any cheats, especially the light cheat (and too much gamma correction as well).

  19. 3DAYPASS.WAD

Even those zombie Sarge's need a break from the rigors of mindless plunder. Where do they go when they get a 3 day pass? They go to the rec-center... paid for by their union dues.....good union, eh? Somehow you have happened upon their secret Hole-in-the-Wall. You find that sargents and some of their foreign brethren are like most mindless Hell Beasts.....they like to eat....your buddies! They also take target practice, they read about ancient methods of torture and some even tease the "pet" Cyberdemon. Being the Sargent hater that you are...remember what they did to Little John....and on his first recon, you take it upon yourself....THIS HOUSE MUST COME DOWN!

  22. Triple-Play (or, Practice What You Preach :)

There sure doesn't seem to be too many single- player levels being made any more. Why? Is no one playing them because after you figure out where the monsters and keys and weapons are, there's no challenge any more? Well, I've addressed that problem -- this is the first level I've seen (and I've seen a lot of them, kiddies; over 1,700 at last count) with semi-random monster placement. Suffice it to say you won't play this level quite the same way twice. >:)

  23. Frag City

You start out in the middle of an arena, if you are able to reach a teleporter, you can enter the second area. There is also a special third area you can fight or run through.

What is different about this Wad that 300 others don't have? Hint: look at the ceiling, :)

    1. No bottlenecks: every spot has at least two exits; you can't be locked down. You also have to watch at least two places for enemies.

    2. Better weapons selection: if you select the first two weapons levels, only shotgun, chainsaw and pistol are available. At level 3, chaingun is available and at level 4, rocket launcher is available. Why do this? We found in playing deathmatch, that the game became too easy with the plasma rifle or rocket launcher all the time. It also made the game's outcome depend on whoever got to the biggest weapon first.

Shotgun and Pistol can be evaded. Plasma gun makes getting killed too easy. Rockets can kill just from the blast wave. The reduction in firepower makes the game more interesting since even an inexperienced player can do killing damage to a seasoned veteran.

An inexperienced player is no match against a more experienced one even with equal high- powered weaponary. This also makes the game more fun since you never know what will happen.

  25. "Watch Yer Back" and "Bloodfalls"

This WAD is a combination of two levels I designed. Map01 is my very first WAD, but it doesn't suck TOO bad, and it is excellent for deathmatch. Map02 is good for solo play, and there are enough goodies scattered around to keep deathmatches going pretty well. (I hate it when you get killed and then you can't get any good stuff before the other guy hoses you again.)

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
