  3. Den of the Apollyon v0.51

Apollyon.zip is but two levels so far. The original was for Doom and was done in 1996 so the code is kinda all of over the place now. Doom2 offers a few enhancements so I decided what was never originally made public should at last appear, only this time as a Doom2 episode.

Each level is both single and multi player oriented and in the next version will have skill levels. Only the title graphic has been changed so far but I'd like to play around with a few doors and such like cos I think it could improve playability. I'd also like new music for the entire episode and some cool multiplayer demos soon.

  7. Assault On Outpost 13

It's been 24 hours since the Phobos and Deimos bases disappeared. Reports have been coming in from all over the Earth of "demons" appearing from thin air and swamping UAC installations. Everybody is on edge. Outpost 12 reported a massive attack force, but then communcation was cut. Your job is to secure the base and fend off any attack. Good luck soldier!

Note: The idea of this level is basically to SURVIVE by using your head and watching your ammo. Note that the exit switch is OUTSIDE the base, but it can only be raised by a switch INSIDE the base. If you want out, you're gonna have to work for it!

  9. Bruised.wad

This is an extremely difficult, large, fast moving, single player wad for Doom2. It was extensively tested by yours truly to insure that only the most skilled and determined players would finish it without cheats. Hint: every time you do something good--SAVE IT!! The opening sequence is particu- larly challenging. You have a pistol and are surrounded by six imps. The following is an explanation of how to do this part: Strafe and go thru the door straight ahead. Hug the left corridor wall and kill the first shotgunner. Hard left up the stairs, taking his shotgun behind the com- puter bank. Kill the chaingunner and get ready for a revenant who's already enroute. Play tag with the revenant for a while and... with a bit of luck, you just might survive this first part! The ammo situation improves from here but you gotta be smart and ro- tate weapons. There are five or six false walls in the wad with goodies and monsters behind them. Look for them and monsters coming out of them. There are two archviles in the wad, one cyberdemon and two spider mas- terminds. In the final room, if you are left standing before the exit door, everyone dead...there is a switch in one of the small rooms that opens up the exit door. Keep your eyes open..there are lots of tricks and traps... Any feedback or questions can be sent to me at Honto1@aol.com. Hope you enjoy it!

  11. ALPHA 1 Trilogy - consisting of: ALPHA1.WAD, OOZI.WAD, ORIGIN.WAD

3 fairly large levels for Doom II (tested on 1.666) following the style of the original Doom II levels. Some original (I hope) design concepts, but generally nothing real wierd or exotic. And, of course, lots of things to kill. You will need to be an experienced player, but CHEATING IS NOT NECESSARY! All beta testers could finish all 3 levels without cheat codes. Also, while intended to be played as a sequence, they were beta tested and successfully played individually (without the power-ups from previous levels). Needless to say it's a little more challenging that way.

  17. ALAS.WAD

These levels start out with some bad customers. No theme, just some visually entertaining areas to wander through. Level 1 - No keys... just kill. The second large area you come to is a worked over area I got from another wad (sorry, I don't remember the authors name). Level 2 - Bad stuff here, mon. You start with the Cyber guy. Not to worry, tho. Somewhat easy kill and plenty of ammo... And after you take care of him it gets easier, no? Say, is that damn train moving forward, backward or not at all? Or... who really cares? Heck of a way to start a level! Level 3 - Again, no keys... just kill. Some interesting visual candy here. You might get a small hom in the bridge room. This level has some areas with Dynamic Light- ing.

  25. CHORD_NG.WAD

MAP28 A level with (as always) vicious gameplay. SInce I've been doing a lot of Quake lately I tried to add in a lot of cool architecture on the roof and stuff... nothing compared to my Quake levels but relative to the average doom level the architecture is pretty good. I like the look: metal2/brown96 /teklite texturing scheme, a large tower/building which somehow survived the apocalypse.

I would _not_ recommend UV for the "average player" UV is for very good players, much harder than doom2. (For one thing there aren't unnecessary invulnerabilitys everywhere...)

Has very cool lighting/architecture and a ton of monsters... Enjoy!

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
