Merely a development (of a development) of my first simple test WAD, this level is not very ambitious, but this second release is a litte bigger, and ultraviolence is tougher.

  12. Bloodflood

I set out to make the ultimate deathmatch level in this one. Once the players are fimiliar with the level it kicks b u t t, ala big time. Works well as a 1player as well.

"You have come upon one of the Cabal's blood-depoes. An important element in any powerful black magic is huge amounts of blood. Emptying the depoe's tanks into the nearby river you will have struck your first blow against the Cabal."

  13. We who are About to Die

Ok for Deathmatch but v e r y playable as one player, judging by the response of play-testers.

"The Cabal has started striking back at you. That last gateway should have taken you... well somewhere else. Not to an arena where thousands of humans have lost their souls to hungry demons. As you get ready for the first wave of hellspawned gladiators you swear to blast the emperor's thumbs off before he can even think about turning them down on you..."

Should you tire of Bloodflood (What!?) then try this smaller, even faster frag-machine on for size. Quite playable as a single game as well.

"Just having escaped the Sea of Blood you have sought out a derelict building in the search for arms & equipment. Unfortunately the station isn't as abandoned as you thought."

  15. Eye of the Storm

Made the whole level design with the thought of one encounter only (you'll know wich one when you encounter it:). The level is an exercise in how to dodge and use the BFG to full effect. If big-weapon blasts are your thing in Deathmatch then you'll want to live inside STORM.

"You find yourself in the remains of an old forttress after ascending a lift shaft from the mines where you were trapped. Signs of unlife is evident but from what you know of this place it should pose no great threat to you. It used to be the centre of a Cacodemon empire that perished some 665 yeaes ago. Oh, by the way, it's new years eve..."

  18. The Image of Evil

This was to be the final showdown in Cabal. Wanted to see how far I could take the design of the map view with it. Cowards go IDBEHOLDA as soon as they enter. Good players will see it evolve.

"The Image of Evil is a humongous temple created to the honour of the first Demon to slay an angel; Lithlaar. In it you will find the Cybo that now is known as the lord of Hell and his two Soulguards."

  20. Corridors of Hell (4th upload) for Doom II HOE.

Medium to large level. Built up on small rooms connected with corridors. Also contains a wastearea. This is the ultimate challenge if you play on skill 4. This level is suitable for single, cooperative and deathmatch. The level was designed with single in mind, but we later found out that deathmatch was quite fun in this level too. The last update have special starts for coop and more deathmatch stuff, like more weapons and teleports. Deathmatchers should keep out of the large arena in the last part of the level.

The level is that of a castle with a church. I made a gulliatine, a gallows pole and a stake burning. I spent a while making every texture aline perfectly. Its a very cool Deathmatch level and a challenge to play alone on the harder difficulties. Cooperative is there but its lame.... I tried to make a pretty level that played well and I think I accomplished that... If anyone has any ideas that I could add on just E-mail me...

  25. FourPlay...

This is the third level I've dreamed up (Get BDS1.exe (DOOM) and BDS2.exe (DOOM2) if you haven't already!). This is my first level totally conceived within the DOOM2 environment... hope you enjoy it!

This is not as large a level as my first two, but it is very challenging. The "floorplan" is basically a symetric four quadrant design, and as such - easy to get disoriented in. The center (which is where you begin in both single player and multi-player) is a large room divided into 4 areas by an elevated "cross" that is actually a lift. Each of the four center sections open into rooms which contain goodies - at a price. Further exploration of the area will find access to keys and surprises !

If you find yourself in the yellow key area, you will HAVE to face the Cyberdemon (my personal favorite) before escaping with the yellow key (the exception being on lower difficulty levels). The yellow key door (off the center room lift) is tricky - beware...you can get in, BUT NOT OUT without the yellow key ! This is where you'll find the BFG and plasma rifle... You CAN exit the level without going into the "yellow key area", but, I hope there are no cowardly marines in this outfit !!

My advice is to get the blue key first, because if you get to the "wooden room" and successfully make the "jumps" to get to the blue key door, and DON'T have the blue key - you're screwed. This, however, makes for interesting multiplayer play... One trick for successfully navigating the wooden room - make your way to the two overlook doorways, and time a couple of rockets so that you get the Revenant and Baron shooting at each other. It will save you ammo and is an interesting vantage point for them duking it out! (Check out the demo...)

There ARE some secret areas. One, I call the cave - is pretty big, and you can get the chainsaw as well as dead there. Try to find it - I hint at it in the demo. If you like to go for 100% secrets, try to find the "hidden Revenant". If you do, he'll surprise YOU !

I had deathmatch in mind with this level. Use the lifts and transporters to set up ambushes. Deathmatch 2.0 will insure plenty of ammo, etc. (I recommend the "No Monsters" flag from either the command line or Death Manager shell - much better for Deathmatch, and it runs faster...)

I'll not say anymore - now hop to it! ...and save your game often... (The save game bug I got a couple of complaints from in my previous BDS2 - "The Phantom" level is not present in this level).

As with The Kicker and The Phantom, my best advice is to KEEP MOVING!

    * To play "FourPlay":

With the BDS3.wad file in the DOOM2 directory type:

    doom2 -file bds3.wad

Choose a difficulty setting of your choice.

If you would like a "tour", please help yourself to the demo I've included. I'll show you SOME of the secrets... To run the demo, with BDS3.wad AND BDS3DEMO.lmp in your DOOM2 directory type:

    doom2 -file bds3.wad -playdemo bds3demo

(This demo was created using DOOM2, version 1.9 - it will not play when running a previous version)

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
