  4. Cyclone (CYCLONE.WAD FROM CYCLONE.ZIP)

The Ultimate Deathmatch level. Play single or co-op if you want, too; there are plenty 'O monsters. (Demons, Spectres, etc.) If you make it thru this on your own in U.V.with no cheats, please e-mail me so I can put you in the Cyclone HoFame! This level has been EXTENSIVELY playtested in modem and network play, and as my friends say "Let's go 'round again!". I seem to remember one night where 4 of us were playing and we all had 30+ frags before we realized the sun had just risen, much to our surprise...

Well, first off, it's a deathmatch. But if you need a description...

UAC has decided that, since no demons have been coming in lately, to close down the corporation. A month afterwards, however, a demon portal opens, and puts you(and your opponents) in a brick building. They open your brain and input a peice of brain saying that you are enemies with the rest of the corporation. So now you think you need to go kill your "enemies" in this place.

Level 01: "Death at Dawn" Type: Deathmatch This is a brick/dirt building that has some very nice graphical effects. All weapons are avalible.

Level 02: "Shaft" Type: Altdeath This place has three parts- (1) a well-lit corridor with the chaingun and BFG, (2) a dim/dark lighted corridor which contains the rocket launcher, shotgun and SSG, and (3) a decently lit mine shaft type area, holding the chainsaw and BFG. The plasma is on the lift from the well-lit area to the dark corridor.

Level 03: "City of Chaos" Type: Deathmatch/Altdeath This is a loop with many twists and turns, all weapons are here. Both play modes are fun for this level.

Level 04: "Silencer" Type: Altdeath Beserk and pistol only time! Tyson-punch out time for you and your buds. (Note: I created the name Silencer way before the wad silencer.wad was released. I used to call E4M6 of the original doom that. Also, one of my levels in Beyond Doom: The Apocalypse was named that.)

Level 05: "Under the Schmea" Type: Deathmatch/Altdeath This is an extremely well-lit building/isle, with water all around it! You cannot go out into the water, however. All weapons are present. (my fav level)

Level 06: "Metal Death" Type: Deathmatch A metallic base with a fountain outside. Small, short and a fragfest, so I like it.

Ok, now this isn't your normal Deathmatch level. Yes, it's called "co"dead for a reason. You play on cooperative mode! Let me explain. This map is kinda like playing capture the flag, in teams of two. Basicly the whole point of the match is to get the key on the opponent's side and get back to your side to exit. That's the basic concept, and if you can figure out the rest w/o reading all of this go ahead. If you need help, here's the details... Each side starts with a different color key. This key opens a door on the other side of the map that your opponents are guarding. You want to get to thier side and steal the "flag" that they guard. The flag is actually the blue skull key. Once you get the flag you need to get back to your starting point so you can open the blue door and exit. Remember, the other team is trying to do the same thing, so you need to guard your side to prevent them from stealing your flag. Got all that? Just test out the map some and you should be able to figure it out.

  17. Down at the Docks

A totally new level for Deathmatch play. This level consists of a wharf theme and has a centeral river running down the center of the level. Many building and places to hide but only one medium sized area creates a level that snipers will enjoy. Many windows for potshots. Visual detail was a high concern during creation. Only shotguns and rocket launchers can be found. Playtesting suggests that some players will enjoy just trying this level with only the shotguns.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
