  6. Deathmatch level 1b

A simple but deadly DM level. This is an updated version of DM1B.WAD. I uploaded the original and the Doom2 version to Xoom; i'm uploading this version to FTP:FTP.CDROM.COM This version works with The Ultimate Doom, AND with Doom2. Now, as an improvement over the old Doom2 version, the music is replaced also when played in Doom2.

  7. Ugh DM 1 Underground Base

This is a small deathmatch level for ZDoom, making use of slopes and a fancy little script for a central event in the map. This is my first DM level as well as the first level in which I use slopes. Well, the slopes are not a very active part of the level, they are only decorative. For this level, I created a set of new textures... which took me maybe an hour. I really wanted to build a level that used no Doom 2 textures at all. I do use a few computers from Doom 2, but anyway, it's mostly new. Looking at the map, it's a fast-paced level with few places to camp or hide. This means that you can play it against a single opponent as well as against 7, and get action all the time. The plasma gun is very tricky to get... you'll find out why. Waiting for it is not always the best thing to do since the other players can come from any direction =)

  8. 8 Grams of Lead (dm_dn04.wad)

Damn, I couldn't go a week without being drawn back to Doom level editing. Heroin is for losers, WadAuthor is a real addiction.

A little different this time. As an effort to improve my skills I have included a linedef triggered lift, a teleporter, and focused a bit on texture choice and alignment. The result is another fast paced deathmatch arena, this time aimed at a maximum of four players.

This level requires zDoom to play, for both music and jumping.

I recommend using zDaemon for netplay.

  9. Evil Capture the Flag

Yet another CTF level that I made. This one is was inspired by the Quake 1 CTF level 2evilCTF that was converted over to Quake2. The only reason I made this one is because of the kick ass AVI Fanatic put made of QDoom. Nodes for Doombot 4.0 are included too.

  10. Flay the Obscene - DeathmatcH

/story The first and only DM level in my series of Flay The Obscene maps containing 3 SP levels and now this one Dm level.

This level uses exactly the same textures and flats as the other maps. Namely brick as the most used, wood and metal.

I'm not the best DM designer, and this is my second DM level in a 3 year "career" as a level designer. All of my other levels are SP and somewhat good with great gameplay and beautiful architecture. So when it came to making a good DM gameplay, I had to start from scratch; I couldn't rely on my experience. My plan was to make a level with no trigger effects whatsoever, the only one being the exit switch. This means that there's nothing like a door or lift to slow you down. Almost every room is connected to each other. Due to the size of the map, hunting is inevitable unless you're 6+ players. Quake3Arena influenced me a little bit.

    Weapons: SS Chaingun Rocket

Items 1 Green armor 1 Soulsphere Potions Helmets

I did most of the testing with zDoom 1.22 bots which worked OK, altough they had a tendency to keep their fights in the big center area. Also they couldn't figure out how to reach the Rocket launcher.

I played with items respawn, falling damage, allow jump, weapons stay which worked OK for me. I don't know how exactly how the level will work with the old DM rules.

  11. Flay the Obscene - The Third

/story One level -sequel for my "Flay the Obscene" and "Flay the Obscene -Part Two".

You can actually load the prequels too and play them as a whole since they all use different map numbers.

Continue in this cold and hostile world in your mission to hold back the invasion of the aliens. Singlehanded you must fight your way through this brick and rock style world. How hard can it be??

However you were told that these aliens showed no sign of intelligence and UAC headquarters believed that it was an easy job for you to hold back these "neanderthal beings". Your first mission proved that! They believed that they had no techological knowledge. However now you start to suspect that they may have some technological know-how afterall. Small tech devices are now appearing in this alien world and things seem less random and messy. Are you getting closer to a truth well hidden by the UAC? Or are you simply starting to get paranoia? After the last mission you now know that they can fight back if they want to! You move on convinced that there's a port/gate further ahead that might bring you home, or.... The rising amount of fellow marines and soldiers fallen dead are troubling your mind. Was there other earlier missions before yours? You feel left behind as there's no way of contacting your superiors. Alone and bloodstained, you decide to finally seek some answers; alone or not, you won't ever be any monster's bloody trophy hanging lifeless on a wall for all to see!

I think this level is a great mix between the pre- vious two! It start out looking a lot like Flay2 but change into looking more like Flay1. This means that if you play the three in a row you'll have the feeling of progressing through this world watching as the scene changes a little bit but never moving away from the theme of the series.

  18. SacrificeDM 06 The Mark Has Been Made

Sac6 is probably the most detailed in the series and this time I've gone with the Quake look - dark brown appearance & moody smoothed lighting all around. Supports up to 4 players and probably will play best with 4 altho' it is quite playable with only 2 players.

Fragfest arena which is symmetrical in design but kind of non-symmetrical in detail, understand? :) Uses the bullets-only weapons (ssg, sg, chaingun) and in a decayed brick 'n' metal theme.

  21. DM4-ish

Remake of Quake map DM4 for Doom2 DM. My first Doom2 map and I wanted to do something very vertical, and I had already done a DM4 remake once so this seemed like a nice first challenge. Removing all the rooms above rooms from the original was rather easy, mostly done by moving stuff apart. Most complex was the GL area which I solved by making it one level (already on the original you can go in all directions by jumping to the ledge on the side). I took great care that the original connectivity was preserved. As to weapons, it is pretty close to the original but I had to swap some things around to make it most fun in "old deathmatch" mode: I originally had the LG replaced by a plasma gun but that would have made that area too campable so I moved it to the RL/HH area. Obviously a map like this will be most fun with the full mlook/jumping experience, but I made it just flat enough that it is playable without them.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
