  5. Stian's deathmatch series for DOOM ][

    Collection with four of my own deathmatch levels. Health is sparse on all of them. Meaning lots of frags and a hopefully a short life for everyone. This levels have been developed, tested and adjusted to be fun for deathmatch. They work best with 3 or 4 players. There are no secrets, but you might want to take a look with your favourite DOOM-editor to get hold of the trigger lines.

    Map01 Level with special use of lights. Map02 BFG level. Map03 Super shotgun level taking place round a tempel. Map04 Office level.

    In short: High frags, short life, no monsters, no secrets, single player exits, BFG only present at dedicated level, the more players the better.

    My own ranking for playability (best first): Map03, Map01, Map04, Map02.

    My own ranking for design (best first): Map01, Map03, Map04, Map02

    A circular building with open inner and outer courtyards. I think that this is my best wad as far as the looks go. 2 player is kinda slow due to the size of the level. Best on -Respawn & -Altdeath.

  15. Slime Time

    Here we are DooMers, SLIME TIME! The story of this finely constructed WAD goes along the lines of this:

    =======================

    You, an ex-marine (now an italian plumber named Mario) and your brother (who else but Luigi) are called to one of the many UAC toxic waste disposal centres on earth.

    Apparently from what you were told over the phone, they have a problem with on of the liquid conductive flow devices. It was however a little hard to understand the guy on the other end. Maybe it his constant drooling on the reciever and his satanic outbursts. There must have been something wrong with that dude, but it sounded urgent so you decide to go to the refinery and see what is wrong.

    Just as you taking the last of the tools from your truck you notice Luigi bending down and sipping some of the water in a nearby river. "Dont'a do that Luigi!" you yell. "It'a could'a be'a contaiminated!"

    "Bullsh*t'a Mario!" He replies. "Look'a at it...It'a looks fi..." He is interupted by a uncontrolable twitch. With that he yells something along the lines of "Satan'a, Command'a me o great'a lord!" and runs into the UAC refinery.

    "Holy maccaroni!" you yell and follow him dropping your tool box.

    As you enter the toxic waste centre, you see a tank filled with waste. "What'a the hell!, This'a stuff'a smells terrible!" you exclaim. The fumes enter your nostils and begin there journey towards your brain.

    You begin to feel agressive and hatred. You hate Luigi for running away. You hate the strange guy on the phone. You HATE EVERYTHING. YOU WANT TO DESTROY EVERYTHING. "All'a I need'a is some firepower to do'a such'a horrible things." you think as you run deeper into the complex.

    ============================

    Oh well, looks like you are pretty pissed at EVERYBODY, and Luigi is feeling the same way about life! There maybe even some of the UAC staff like the guy on the phone in here as well. Looks like it is kill or be killed...

  18. Swat Team Hunt

    I got the idea for this while playing 3 player deathmatch, and secretly ganging up one player. Here you can play 2, 3, 4 player deathmatch. The level is of moderate size, consisting of a wide open area with a sniper tower, adjoining sewers, and an Armory building. Even though it's wide open in areas, there are many two-way exits from would-be corners, and there are a few places where you take a gamble going in, but the reward is large.

    One idea to spice up playing is to make one person a fugitive, and make the other deathmatchers the police trying to corner and apprehend him. If he runs into the armory he can only come out the front door, the elevator shaft, or escape via the roof. Can you cover all these bases with your men.

  19. Nice to See You

    This is my third wad, for deathmatch only. It actually turned out great, textures and alignment are good, but don't look too hard. All weapons present, BFG pretty well hidden. Many different sector heights and windows work great for deathmatch because you don't always know when your being watched (until someone swoops down and busts a cap in your ass.) Anyway, it's great deathmatch material nothing too tricky or "neat" but it just seems to work.

  24. TAZMANIA.WAD

    Welcome to Castle Tazmania. This is a DOOM ][ Level designed primarily for deathmatch play. I took great care to choose textures appropriately for all rooms, and I also spent a lot of time aligning the textures to make the secrets a little harder to find. (I cannot abide those who throw something together in an hour without even trying to align textures, and then expect us to play it). I am especially proud of the walls in the spiral staircase. A lesser man would have left the venetian-blind effect there because it was so much trouble to correct. I always enjoy watching perfectly matched walls go by as I'm running full speed, guns a-blazin'.

      I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

      Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

      A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

      Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

      I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
