  1. In Satan's Lair

After killing the big badass at the end of Doom2, you thought that was that, but although *most* of Hell was destroyed, the biggest badass - Satan himself - survived, and has kidnapped John Romero. You must go into Satan's Lair - or Quake may never be released...

You start out in Satan's lair and make your way slowly through to confront SATAN HIMSELF (who by a complete coincidence looks exactly like the Cyber-demon). After killing him with your rocket launcher, you find you can't see John Romero so you go on past a wierd Nazi cult and stumble into the Spider- demon's nest, where it is protecting it's son and one of it's eggs (which by another EXTREME COINCIDENCE looks like a blue skull key). You destroy Spidey with your BFG and go on to discover that you are too late... John Romero has not only been decapitated and his head put on a spike, but his mind has been possessed by the demon Nekcihc - leaving him in constant torment... Now you have to put him out of his misery and destroy Nekcihc to save humanity.

    or something like that.

  2. HellKeep V2.0

Level starts in a fortress type setting, and later progresses into a variety of classical doom-style techno/hell themes. Fairly challenging, with plenty of surprises. This level was not designed specifically for deathmatch but Map 02 would, in our humble opinion, kick ass for that purpose, as would map 03. More levels are forthcoming... look for the latest versions of hellkeep on ftp.cdrom.com!

  6. GLADIATOR v2.2

You've done your job -- you saved mankind for what seems like the millionth time, and for what? Sure, you get a few thousand dollars, but the thing you need right now is some good old fashioned R & R. With your money, you purchase a room at the Holiday Hotel and pay the clerk. You take your key, go to your room, and right as you're about to insert it, you're not at the hotel anymore. You've been teleported, but where?

There's no time to think about it. Cacodemons, demons, imps, and even your old friend Mancubus are all going to make you feel sorry you ever came here, even if it was against your will. You look around; a double barreled shotgun. A big grin creeps across your face. You grab it, put on the radiation suit nearby and show those imps who's boss. You turn around and walk forward, until you come to the end. You keep going, fall, run to escape the fiery coals, and find yourself looking at a giant arena surrounded by red torches where cyber demons and spider bosses fight it out to the death.

It is the year 2012, and where these guys come from, that's when their `Olympics' are held. Only these aren't the usual Olympics; this is an all-out war where the populous send out their finest warriors to battle it out in a vicious fight to the death. You've intruded on their little game, and now they're sending their body guards to make sure it doesn't happen again.

  8. Hangar w/ Runway 36

My "HANGAR" has two hangars and is considerably harder than E1M1. (Original DOOM.) This whole level has no story, it is pure creativity. Any idea that popped into my head went into that PWAD, whether or not it related to the airport scene. It took a very long time to finish this PWAD, and I expect some major revisions. Thank God for DEU II.

  23. HazMat23.Wad (for DOOM 2) Hazmat Proc 2.3

A return to Phobos base: General Union Aerospace's Hazardous Materials Processing Center (HAZMAT PROC). Big, complex deathmatch level. No dead ends, all weapons, lots of ammo. Primarily for deathmatch, try playing in teams; there's a lot of passages that can only open from one side-- opportunities for daring rescues. If you're only playing two players, it might take a while to hunt down your opponent.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
