Nebula 95: Drown Stone Cassette B

Fourth entry in a series of small vanilla doom maps in a space adventure built off personal nostalgia. Each entry consists of a two short maps: an introductory monsterless map with a single secret to find before tackling the mission, and the main map itself. I release them in the order they are made, but the difficulty depends on the map. Drown Stone Cassette A (just Drown Stone) is based on my submission for Snakes' Secret Santa project, in which I was tasked at imitating Forty-Two/stewboy's style. I originally planned on using this map as part of the Nebula 95 series, but I realized toward the end of making it that it didn't quite fit for a few reasons: it was boom-compatible, and it used new non-sky textures in the map, which sort of went against the style I had in mind for this series. I liked it too much the way it was though, so I released this version to the archive as Dstone.wad. For the second version (the one you're looking at), the resources were changed and it was optimized to be vanilla-compatible, which meant making changes to the architecture and gameplay of the map. If you want to play a more direct action-oriented styled map, try out DStone.wad. If you want to play a slightly more puzzle-oriented cheesy nineties version of the map, give this one a go.39 downloads

It was based on my map 18 from Odamex Nitro, but the layout (particularly the perimiter around the central shrine), has changed quite a bit for the single player version. It's a sorta free-roaming level in which all weapons are available, if you know where to find them.13 downloads

It has a very non-linear and interconnected layout, almost to the point of being a deathmatch map...but funnily enough unlike the previous two entries this map isn't based on any of my deathmatch layouts. ODESSA 7 ("6 Keys of the Asmod Monks")

High in a distant Mountain Range nestled among the cliffs lies the Asmod Monk Sanctuary. Legends abound of this sect and how these monks dabbled in the black arts. It has been many years since the remaining monks abandoned their abode and returned to the outside world leaving behind the remnants of their trade. Now in the midst of the chaos and turmoil in the world, the sanctuary is once again lit up and the howls and groans of the many demons can be heard throughout the mounatin range. History states that once inside this castle of darkness, the only way out is to procure the 6 Keys of the Asmod Monks and make good your escape. The setting is somewhat medieval. I do have a keen interest in castles and I think it is reflected in my wads. The scenic quality is pretty good (I think anyway). An overall storyline is still on the drawing board for the complete set of wads, however this wad's setting is an old castle apparently inhabited by not too friendly folks.23 downloads

ODESSA 13 (Anaxis Courtyard)

This wad is one of 17 levels of a large wad not uploaded yet called "LORDDOOM.WAD". The setting and the middle of this level is a courtyard and a bridge traversing the center of it. You must cross the bridge to start your search for the switch which allows you access to the red key. Easier said than done unless you know how to use your fists and a chainsaw. ODESSA 11 ("Sojourn")

You have stumbled upon what appears to be an underground alien stronghold. From the looks of this, it may not be too easy getting in. A long tunnel with heavy metallic columns bars your way. Your instincts tell you the terrain inside is going to be rough. Occasional growls can be heard from the northeast, from within a tower that seems to casually stand sentinel over the surrounding hillside. The stench almost overwhelms you as you draw near to another of death's doors.24 downloads

ODESSA 9 (Landing Zone)

You have been sitting in the hills all day watching large alien aircraft land and take off. Local villagers have told you this has been going on for weeks. They have said large crates have been unloaded and deposited inside the compound. You remember a previous experience with lots of crates when you were a newbie, almost two years ago. You hated crates then and you still do, but some of these crates are larger and look differnt. It's almost nightfall now (you remember hating the dark, too) and you reach down for your only companion, your shotgun, and realize to your horror it's back at the village. One pistol and 50 rounds. This has happened before. There were alot of things they didn't tell you when you joined this outfit and this appears to be one of them.22 downloads

5 maps to survive through. No real plot here, though some map details can hold some. Use Imagination :) HMP skill level is recommended for first run, UV may be too hard without learning all secrets. Secrets are vital part of the wad, so some tips on few secrets I don't want you to miss: -map 02 - Don't miss plasma rifle when you're in hurry. -map 04 - Look for strange wall to get supershotgun, chainsaw and some extra ammo. -map 05 - With yellow key obtained, do some backtracking to get such a good thing as backpack. Also, when you're done with the big spider, don't hurry to push exit switch - now you can pay back for map02 and get 100% of kills. And don't forget, automap is your friend :)
P.S. Yes, 1st map is really small, go further. P.P.S. Works with vanilla, or at least with Chocolate Doom18 downloads

For those Doomers who dislike puzzles, but do like the blood and guts, this is the Wad for you. Actually a good training mission for multi-player gamers. The setup is fifty plus rooms of bad guys. The doors are narrow so players will have to take turns being point. I don't believe the level is completable in single player mode without a major Dehacked job.30 downloads

'Domestic' level of Doom situated in a real house with beds, cupboards, sofa and idromassage baths!
Is an attempt to use the powerful engine of Doom to feign an real architectonic ambient (in this case that's my house).
For a realistic exploration you should choose one of the two easiest levels (there aren't any monsters and all the keys are disponible). Then you choose the arm #1 (it's not polite to go in the house of the others with a gun aimed at the man's hight :)). In certain moments you'll be tele-trasported: it's a necessity becouse the real ambient has three flors and Doom don't allow this kind of things.
If you prefer to do this exploration more violent, just try it. All the other levels are perfectly playable.

Micro Plutonia

3 very much Plutonia-inspired maps. Some trivia: The last map (06) was first finished 2010 for Plutonia Revisited, but was omitted from the project so I released it seperately. The other two are new maps. Note that these maps are placed as map04-06, and not 01-03. I should also recommend the use of savegames when you play map06 as that map has a lot of trial-and-error gameplay.27 downloads
