  1. PJW4WAY

My first level. Turned out to be a little too ambitious for a first level, but what the hey. Sneaky level. Fun for both single play and deathmatch. A little big for two-player death- match, but awesome for 4 player. Has every weapon, if you can figure out how to get to them . . .

  4. Pent-A-Gon

This is a huge level with hundreds of monsters. There are 7 Cyberdemons and 3 Spiderboss. I tried to avoid confusion and make some kind of a path for finishing the level (with keys) but I didn't succeed.

There are four secrets, a few surprise moments, a few very dangerous confrontations and poor ammo & health. All this could project this level as a ludicrous one, but I've seen worse.

This level is one of those where you must get the monsters killing each other because you don't have so much ammo as they do :).

Save often and take care of your health. I MEAN IT!

  6. Reactor

Intelligence informs you of a nuclear installation, location undisclosed, that has been taken over by hellspawn (big surprise!) They inform you of a main power reactor which, like the rest of the plant is underground. It is believed that the demons plan to use this power source to develop weapons and increase their arsenal. The reactor was designed to easily be shut down in emergency situations (good thing). Your mission, should you chose to accept it, is to locate the reactor and shut it down and find your way out. The only thing known about the base is that there are three keys restricting access to personnel. Good luck.

Mission objectives: Locate and shut down the reactor.

  20. rr levels release 01 as rrd201.zip

Six new levels from scratch PLUS a level from the outline presented in the book "Tricks of the Doom Programming Gurus".

I have tried to create a blend of technical design, game play, and interesting challenges. The balance point of difficulty and power-ups was meant to make the levels playable. It is possible to play even on difficulty level "Hurt me plenty" without the codes -- but you either have to know what's coming up next or save a lot.

I have never played co-op or deathmatch -- from the pwads I have seen -- these will probably not be very good for either application. They were originally intended to be played as individual levels -- so if they are played in sequence you may notice an overabundance of power-ups, weapons, and ammo -- but that should not be a problem -- just pick up enough of what you need to make it interesting. (HECK, THE MONSTERS NEVER RUN OUT OF AMMO!)

It will run on Doom2 1.666 or 1.9. Not for the inexperienced player -- you need to know the tricks of Doom play, how to use the map, and (maybe -- wimp) the cheat codes.

Since it is a straight patch wad replacement there is no "installation" required. Just un-zip the file, then copy to your doom directory and type:

    doom2 -file rrd201.wad

  21. Enigma Town, Version 1.0

If you are tired of complete the 32 levels of Doom II and you finished R.J.G. Stark Base. then you have been trained for this. The new argument?: The big explosion of the Magna Reactor in R.J.G. Stark Base opens a hole in the timeline. And you fall on it..... Your eyes lights up, wandered because you are live, the first thing you do is to talk via radio to the Doom Team, The commander recognize you, WOW..., You are in 1999, 3 years... You walk and look around: Former R.J.G. Stark Base is now a small city in middle of radioactive desert, everything seems different, Barons of Hells are extinct, CyberDemons and Spider Mastermind are discontinued forever. Everything is new technology: The powerful Golden Walker, The new plasma fire gun, with a little wide range, the BFG10000, now toasts the enemy, and an UAC supersecret weapon system. Oh no, your signal has been intercepted, you are discovered, you must escape!!!, if you try to go to radioactive desert you surely will die. The only way is to touch the four Sacred Gems in the city in order to activate the Mystical Transportator somewhere. It's no easy, but you're ... you! So, once again, can get stuck off?

  25. Ruins to the Underworld

STORY: UAC had been studying the ancient ruins of a civilization which had discovered the secret to opening a portal to the Underworld. One of the most remarkable sites of these ruins was the mile high crusher, which had amazingly pinched a whole between both dimensions.

UAC did the impossible to cover up their sinister operation. From outside the site seames to be and abandoned brick structure...but from the inside, its a completely different story . A duke had discovered these ruins in the 12th century and built his castle around them, including a precious library with countless volumes on witchcraft. But now UAC has taken over and integrated this castle to thier research facilities.

It was recorded in the computer logs that the researchers were able to open the portal for a few moments, but it was too unstable. A few days later, after this grand moment, demons began to appear everywhere.

Little by little the researchers of this ultra-secret operation became possesed by confusion and rage, rendering themselves useless to their tasks. Somehow UAC forsaw that the doom of the world was inminent and decided to give it one last shot. They hire the one last man on earth who had any experience with these types of operations (you), and hoped for the impossible.

LEVEL CONSTRUCTION: It took a WHOOOOOOLE YEAR to create this level (I am not kidding!).But it wasn't a 24-hour a day kind of thing, but more of a "30 minutes here"-"30 minutes there" thing. I had a small deathmatch level planned out when I first started... but, as time went by, it got soooooo big I just had to convert it into a one player type of level (although I think deathmatch and COop is DOable,I have never really tried it). I tried to pay attention to the texture alignments, aswell as the shadow effects of certain light sources. This level represents a hell of a lot of patience on my part (and probably on your part as soon as you play it). I hope you enjoy it.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
