  7. I.C.T.O.A.N.

Well, everyone always seems to associate me with my SHiTWADS series now and some people think that I'm just not capable of creating real maps. So I set out to prove them wrong, heh. Anyway, this is the end result, and I like it. There's no backstory you need to know here, thanks to the wonders of ACS and cameras and such. Anyway, it's a single level thing set in a demon-infested airship type thingy. If you're claustrophobic, don't try this level, as it's really cramped. I made darn sure that the gameplay is still good, though (including a crazy team of betatesters and such). Anyway, I hope this just goes to show you that I CAN make good maps. :P I also went ahead and replaced a few weapons, just because I can. :P

  8. In A World

I tried to the best of my abilities to capture the unmistakeable and illogical themes of the original Doom II levels and throw in some unique looks with a little less space to move about in. And if I have to say so myself this level looks better than the Doom II levels with more detail and exiting architecture.

There's been used to many different kinds of textures and flats to list here, but don't worry: It's not messy! There's a degree of order in there...

And some of you might claim that it isn't a proper Doom II level without.... yeah, well, you'll find out. Be sure of one thing though: It's totally deliberate, so don't complain about it.

  9. Icon of Sin Patch

A new version of the Icon of Sin. I get bored of face that wall at the end of almost any megawad. Now, while it's still a static monster, it looks and plays diferent (it isn't a wall anymore), but retains the clasic DOOM feel. I designed this patch for authors who want something new that still look doomish to use in their own projects, specially for these who don't like to replace any monster (I mean, Revenants, Barons, Imps, Cacodemons, you know..), or monster projectiles, but still want a new boss, and are not familiar (like me) with Zdoom 1.63

  12. GROVE

GROVE- THE STORY CONTINUES (...from where?)- In your garden, you can sometimes see an angry looking fat dude steal your mushrooms. He's Smugla. Whenever he takes them, he leaps into a deep hole in the floor like a rabbit. You've never catched him. One day you think "Gee- I wonder why he lives in the ground?" So one day, taking your pistol to blow that mushroom stealer to bits, you jump down the hole. "Lets see how he enjoys my mushrooms now!"... Whatever that means. You hit the bottom of the hole, and you see the hole continue horizontally down. So you go down it, and hit a dead end. But then, you look up, and see another hole out "ha HA!" you retort. You climb out the hole, and look around- "Umm... where the hell am I?" You say, as you see the red skied, gold stared, tree covered, 7 frame per second frame rate world of Grove. You get out of the hole, and see Smugla's house infront of you, with HIS mushroom garden, which are really your mushrooms that he stole. You might as well take them. They are yours- even if it would anger him. Where is he anyway?

There is a map in his house, showing his X on it. Hmm. I wonder why he wants to go there? Well, he IS a trans-galactical mushroom stealer - maybe its a huge mushroom grove? or maybe an opportunity to get other mushrooms from other dimensions? Who knows. Do you? You do don't you- don't lie. Tell me- TELL ME!!

    END OF STUPID STORY

P.S- Sorry about all those trees. Its a relatively small level anyway. You just have to be observant at times and a good shooter. The ammo can be pretty tight at times I guess. You'd probably just IDDQD, IDKFA it to the end won't you. Tsk tsk.

  15. IC1Room (AKA Go!)

A one room map I made for Job's Second One Room Contest. The theme was something along the lines of 'make a unique looking map using a variety of different themes'. I hope I've achieved something like that. I kind of went for a hell/tech hybrid, but didn't have enough space to put in quite everything I wanted.

Once I added detail I decided to make the map an all out frag fest by adding 80 monsters. Oh yes, and there's an approximate 40 second time limit (via a Voodoo Doll + Crusher combo). It is tough, and I think some people might feel I've spoilt the map with all the carnage. It is quite beatable on Skill 1 and 2 though, and probably challenges most people on Skill 3. Skill 4 is definately hard. It's even harder to get a MaxKill on UV, though I've included a demo to prove that it's possible :P I'm guessing quite a few of the speedrunners could beat my time.

  16. War with the Imps

These levels are a battle between humans and imps. They have scripts, so Zdoom is required. The levels have a storyline in them and also in intermission texts. Also levels 2-4 were at first designed completely different, so there are some pointless secrets and unused areas in them.

  18. Heart (v1.17.3b)

Heart is the third level in the Grind series, following Grind2 and Dream. This level took a lot of time to complete, especially some of the detailing. It took forever to get the ammo/health balance right but I've beaten it a few times now and my testers inform me it's not impossible. The level was up to 15,000 SideDefs before I packed them (13,420 SideDefs packed), making this my largest level even though it's a fairly small map.

My 1st level to break in the zdoom engine. Tried to use the same theme as the circle of death, although it came out as a rectangle, and uses an industrial\ hell boarderline theme. Put in some In-Game cutscenes to help this pointless story out . Just a practice test to get some scripting skills if you will.

  24. Helpyourselfish

This level is somewhat advanced in terms of navigating around in it. However, the path is rather linear and will relatively fast lead you around the map its size considdered. There is a lot of switches to be found, however only in a couple of places do they activate a remote placed lift, door etc. It is also a relatively long walk from the when you first spot the Blue Key untill you can actually pick it up. Again, just follow the path and you will eventually get it.

And please, most of the lava-pits are in-escapable! Don't jump into them during battle! Now you know, so don't complain about it...

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
