  3. Pain Above All

A Hell-themed map that I originally created for a community megawad project. That project fell flat on its face, so I decided to keep the map as a stand-alone experience. This was the very first time I'd worked exclusively with this theme, so it was both challenging and a great learning experience. I believe this is one of my best maps yet, with non-linear gameplay and well-balanced difficulty.

  4. Riot Control

A set of 4 maps using Quake textures. The maps are small to medium in size, and gameplay gradually gets harder as you progress. The maps are pretty detailed and have a good amount of interesting architecture. My goal was to make small-ish maps with gameplay that wasn't going to get brutally hard. At first I wasn't expecting to do more than one or two maps with these textures, but I had enough ideas and motivation to sqeeze out a few more maps. And it turned out to be a nice enough set of maps. I'm not planning to make more maps with these textures, but I might do a sequel with Quake 2 textures in the future.

  8. It's Nothing Personal

This is part 2 to my seven level campaign titled "Severed". Wanted to get this one out there as soon as I could. Planned on releasing the campaign as one whole wad, however due to the time it seems to be taking me to develop a single level, I decided to now release my campaign in parts. When it's finished, I suppose I will package it all together and put a bow on it. It's Nothing Personal is a personal homage to one of my favorite Plutonia levels: Go 2 It. I didn't structure any part of the level after Go 2 It, but rather tried to recreate a fair but severely challenging map remniscent of Go 2 It. In no way do I think my prowess can stack up to Plutonia's greatness, by the way. Anyways, at first I didn't intend for this level to be completeable by pistol start (this map was originally intended to be the level before the final level in the campaign), but tweaked it just barely enough so that it's possible to do such. I've play tested it on Ultra Violence from pistol start and if a mere mortal like me can complete it, I'm sure any of the Doom Gods can do it. There are some vague switches and obtuse secrets to be had, and even I felt put off by it, but it seems to encourage full exploration of the map, so I hesitantly left them in. Just like my previous Severed map, this one utilizes a lot of the neat zDoom/Skulltag engine features, such as jumping, swimming, zooming, etc. I also decided to leave out the heavily colored sectors in this one as well, as it didn't seem to fit in very well with the feel of the level. Big thing here too: this map slows up like a bitch if all the full effects of the Beautiful Doom wad are left on, so go into the options and tweak whatever is neccessary for your machine. After this lengthy description, I would like to say ANY feedback would be greatly appreciated! Especially critical! I'm still learning the ropes of publishing and creating, so I would like to know the brutal truth about anything you think about this map. Thanks!

This is level number three for me, and i would say its the best ive done so far. The level is'nt quite so linear in its design as my last two efforts, difficulty settings have been applied (unlike my prvious two maps) and this is just generally more of a challenege.

  17. Raven Crypt

Hexen style crypt with Doom and Realm667 monsters to kill and secrets to discover.

This map started as a wrap around the song that I planned to use for some time now. As the music comes from a Fantasy Dungeon Crawler RPG game "Lands of Lore" I decided to go with the Hexen theme for this map. Texture pack provided by Realm667 has proved to be very helpful in acomplishing this task.

The other thing that I wanted to reuse was the Vulcan Cannon sprites that I have already used in my somewhat primitive Terminator WAD. This time it is even more powerful and even more noisy.

The usual "Gloomy-Why-We-Have-To-Kill-Everyone" story has been provided in the section below.

So, go play this not too long but also not quite short map and have fun.

  21. Realm of Cheogsh

"Realm of Cheogsh" (unofficially a.k.a as "Cheogsh 3") is the final part of "Cheogsh" series. The wad consists of 3 large levels united in a hub. It is recommended to play in this wad only in a OpenGL-mode, because otherwise, in software mode, ROCH's features, like 3D-floors and dynamic light are absent, and you can't enjoy them (also this concerns of the all "Cheogsh" series as well). Jumping and mouselook are also necessary, since this wad requires free mouselook. Standard sector light mode is recommended.

The story is a continuation of "Cheogsh 2": this time you find yourself on a shore of a mysterious island , and while investigating it, you will find a lot of interesting things, and meet very worthy opponents... Have a good game!

  23. White Light: 2010 Edition

White Light 2 wasn't going anywhere, but I'd made all the necessary resources. So, to avoid letting them go to waste, I went back to the critically unsuccessful original White Light of 4 years ago and changed some things up, adding in all of the new enemies, some of the new textures and the new version of Justice (also seen in the latest version of Justice - Infernal Mechanics). Visuals haven't changed much, the gameplay is very different and the quality of the scripting has improved dramatically. NOTE: Justice has a ranged alternate fire, which uses ammunition.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
