Sprawlbase

This started as a small, simple techbase to test my understanding of basic mapping techniques while making something decent and playable, but I kept adding to it as I thought of more ideas and styles I wanted to try (hence the name). Skilled players will definitely find this one on the easy side, especially at the beginning, but I did try to create some moments of challenge. I won't do too much apologizing here--suffice it to say there are a LOT of things I would do differently next time around.
This map was designed without the use of mouselook, jumping, or crouching, but I don't think you'll break anything too badly by using any of that. There's a room near the end where you'll have to noclip back if you hop over the railings, but that's about it.30 downloads

I wanted to create a level that kept changing layout as the player progresses. This means a lot of lowering walls and floors... and perhaps some bloody surprises too! It is a medium sized level with a moderate amount of monsters. There should be plenty of ammo and health. Stardate 20X6 is a set of 8 boom-compatible levels that are all about the color purple. I couldn't think of a wad that extensively used the color so I decided to spend some time and completely overdose on it. The levels meander through underground and space-station themes, and are filled with all sorts of abstract violet goodness. Much of the gameplay resembles the arena style typically found in slaughtermaps, but the monster counts (in general) aren't overwhelmingly high. The maps are very difficult, with UV hopefully presenting a worthy challenge even for veteran doomers. HMP is also implemented, and is intended for casual playthroughs.338 downloads

You sleep, and hear shots, get out of bed frenzied and for some reason you are dressed. You search the place of that sound, but only find the corpse of your wife and your two sons riddled with bullets. You look frustrated at them, because you could not defend them against that macabre murderer. You call the police for help, but they're worthless and achieve nothing and close the investigation. So you decide solve this with your own hands, ask for the investigation papers, and reading them you get surprised: "the property was uninhabited by strangers, and hasn't been found fingerprints". They asked the neighbors, and that day nobody came to the building at the hour of the killings. This sounds incredible, and you search a logical explanation, but there are none. The house was totally closed, door and windows locked with keys. "This can't be", you think, "that means that I was the murderer". You check the house, and find below the carpet a revolver from your army days. Although two months have passed it still smells of gunpowder [...] So you are the murderer. [...] You decide kill yourself, but when pressing the trigger nothing happens, you fell like falling in a dark place, now you are not alive nor dead; are you a lost soul? Many days pass with you still falling, you die from hunger without dying, die from thirst without dying, die from cold without dying. In the end you should arrive to some place, although that could be YOUR TORTURE.13 downloads

It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long. -

Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo.
