  3. Why Did it Have to be Snakes?

An entry for the Doom Republic Editing Contest. The theme is a dungeon and the amount of time given is a week, but I slacked off a bit and made it in about 4 days, so don't expect anything great. The map is 'supposed' to be a dungeon set in Hell but I got a bit carried away and I don't know what it is now. It also requires the Gothic Textures pack to run.

  4. UAC Research Vessel #1024

I wanted to make an entry for Lutrov's 1024x1024 wad and came up with this awesome idea and started making it, but found out that the 244 linetype, which my level revolves around the use of, wasn't kosher for the project. So, I took the level and decided I hadn't released anything in way too long, and turned it into this.

The level takes place on a two-deck spaceship, complete with quarters, galley, rec area, laundry, computer room, science lab, cryo room, power control, observatory, and a bridge. The level is definitely doable from a pistol start, and it's even easier if you find both of the secrets.

I didn't implement skill settings in this map because it's so small to begin with. There's also an element of strategy involved, particularly in the final run to get the blue key and exit.

  5. Vae Victus

A 7 level "episode" for Doom 2 utilizing new textures and music. For fans of Deus Vult and Alien Vendetta. There are only two difficulty settings: Normal (easy and medium) and hard. The most noticable areas of difficulty change is in key areas, such as replacing an archville with a baron of hell (for example). Normal difficulty is a toned down version while Ultra Violence is what makes VV fun. My advice is to play it on UV, and if it proves too much, play it on normal. However, Map06 in particular is quite hard on UV.

Par completion time is around 80-120 minutes depending on the player; however it will take most players longer than 120 minutes the first time around. Co-Op play is not only an option, it's preferred! Load it up, get some friends, and have some fun. ZDoom is recommended. Some enviroments in the later maps might be too big for older computers slower than 1.0 ghz.

A tip for people who are going to complain about map06: In order to get the gate to lower, you must find a series of teleporters which will take you to various locations in the hills that will lead to the switch. The first teleport is located behind the marble face in the lava. This is completely beatable. And as always, save often.

As for map07, I decided to include it in this release simply because I wasn't about to release a dead simple remake in a 5 meg texture pack :)

  10. The [ZDoom Community Map] Project "Take 1"

One evening, just about 2 months ago, I had this idea of creating just one ZDoom map together with some other mappers and friends. Well, who else could be mor qualified as the ZDoom.org community itself? :) That was the day, when I opened a new thread over at the ZDoom forums and telling those people my plans, and the rest is just history which can be read over at: http://forum.zdoom.org/viewtopic.php?t=2935 By the way, this is the longest thread ever in the history of Forums@ZDoom.org with over 1000 replies (no spam) and over 10.000 views, amazing, isn't it? :) Thx goes to all the contributors, they really worked hard and also very fast, so this could be released within one month of developement!

  14. Waste Site

The story of this wad is pretty unusual. It all started with a very ambitious project "Fear The Shrill" (some screenshots were shown to public on "The Doomer's Reccess" (home13.inet.tele.dk/CNH) The main goal of the project was to create an 11 level wad with levels styled with good Mapper's styles, like maps that would look they were made by Kaiser, or Karthik (rather inspiration, not stealing someone's style). The thing was to learn map editing and accomplishing ambitious projects. Later Fear The Shrill evolved into an episode 1 replacement, but with a new style, new maps, new story and new graphics.. exactly, graphics. By that time I simply couldn't find any good sprites or textures for my project so I realized that I should start making my own. So I began searching for some good art programs. PSP and 3ds Max were my choices (tough I don't own 3ds as of yet, but it's only a matter of time). It took a lot of time to study them, but I think I've advance to a rather good level in artmaking (comparing my current skills to those from the past- I did improve), and my natural talents helped me too :-) (hypocryte). However, later I found a rather good way for motivation when working on projects-teams. On WIP I've teamed up with the Doom Refresh Daemon Team (check out this awesome project at --doomos.webpark.pl--). The team's leader, Ellmo found me useful and I joined the group. My position was mostly a beta tester but I could also add some minor graphics to the project, such as a new gun O_o. Needless to say after some time me and Ellmo began work on an outstanding new project which You can check at www.republika.pl/newproject - The mighty RONE. Stay tuned. Currently I decided to release this map just for people to play it and see what Fear The Shrill alpha was going to be. Because I'm working on RONE, FTS is hold for an unknown yet period of time. Will it ever be finished? No one knows..

  18. The Wicked City

I've had the design for this level sitting in the back of my mind for a while. This isn't my first Doom level although I haven't made doom levels for about 5 years so its my getting back on the horse level. But don't let that worry you. This wad takes you from the carpark of a housing estate ( I think they have them in england) to an abandoned station, sewer, factory and various other areas to rescue your beloved who has been captured by aliens/demons/whatever. Theres some anime elements thrown in and some sprites not suitable for younger players, but its all in the interest of doom/wickedcity fun. (Incase you didn't know Wicked city is an anime that I loosely based this level on. All the graphics in this wad though are my own)

  19. ZUUL

A Doom 2 conversion of Abandoned Chapel, originally for Hexen.

Far from just a simple conversion, I removed several areas and added some new ones later on. The monster placement was redone from scratch. Seeing as only a handful of people will play AC just because Hexen isn't so popular, I feel this is a fair conversion :P Enjoy!

  22. ZanZan TC Pack

The ZanZan TC was missing from the /idgames archive, which I felt was something of a crime (why it was never uploaded I don't know) since it's such a great TC. For more info on the TC read the file ZanReadme.txt in the zip.

This pack includes ZDoomGL 0.66 because that's the version of ZDoomGL needed to run the TC since it has MD2 support. The current version of ZDoomGL (coded by timmie) is more stable, but supports less features. You can actually play this TC with that version (but you need to move the player1 start in map01) but it will look silly without the MD2s.

To play this just simply unzip to your Doom directory WITH folders (it will unzip to a folder called 'zanpack') enabled. Now, the archive includes a few batch files for Voodoo 2 and 3. If you have one of those you can try using them, but your best bet is to just run zan.wad from the command line, and ZDoomGL will do the rest. Read ZanReadme.txt first though, as it will tell you the options you'll need enabled to play the TC properly.

If you have any questions about running the TC the feel free to contact me.

  24. V.O.L. (1000 Demons)

The Demon's Sanctuary is threatening to flood our world with evil beyond comprehension. They have built an altar of demonic summoning that when activated will give them a gateway into our world.

Your mission Extermination. Enter the Sanctuary and slaugher anything that moves. Destroy their altar.

    Try not to die!

This level is intentionally low on ammo. If you try to shoot everything you WILL run out. Conserve your ammo for when it counts. Use your fists whenever possible.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b
