  2. DOOM ][ Wad files by SynJ. Series 1-8

Ummm... Here. These are all deathmatch levels, a few of them actually contain monsters, but who cares. SynJ1 starts out very primitivly, as you can tell, and show the progression of my level making. SynJ4, 7, and 8 are the most liked by the small audience I have.

I made these because in Doom ][, I believe, the levels are too cramped or spacious for deathmatch. They weren't good for 2-4 players at all. Maybe Co-op.. maybe. I never used co-op in Doom ][.

SYNJ1 is a medium sized level, with small mazes to get to rocket launcher, teleports, health, and super shotgun. Great for quick getaways.

SYNJ2 is huge. Traps all over, watch your step! Large bridges with maybe goodies, maybe death. And with that rad suit on you'd better be sure, or else you stay down there for a while.

SYNJ3 is in resemblence to synj2, only easier to find eachother and no real large battlefield, just running your ass off over bridges, jumping out windows, teleporting.. (HINT: There's a secret lair.. trigger the switch with the post)

SYNJ4 is a slightly big wad, only for some reason everyone bumps into eachother within 20 seconds (not garanteed), and short routes to every part in the level.

SYNJ5 is castle-like, semi-big. All weapons including BFG. Follow the lava flow down into a secret ammo containing area. Jump across to the plasma.

SYNJ6 resembles synj4. There usually is huge chaos and missles flying around so much that you'd think it was air. People screaming through the halls of the sewer containing the missle launcher, splattered bodies, etc. Of course, if no one fights over the missle launcher, there's a huge plasma fight.

SYNJ7 is a great 4 player, where 2 people will be on one team and 2 on the other in deathmatch - no altdeath. Watch the blood fly. And look for the huge "SynJ" in the ground outside. Every weapon but the BFG. Two alternate doors on each side of the outside. Usually there will be an endless fight in 4 player with missles, chaingun, rockets, plasma, shotguns, and the excitement rules.

SYNJ8 is the same for synj7, only the fights will occur more, since the battleground is not as large, and filled with windows and bars. Every weapon but the BFG. At the time this is my latest, and have not tested it out that much. It is largely decorated, and with the 1 on 1 I tested it on, dispersed fighting occured, not hanging around the same area all the time. I always spotted him, and he always spotted me within 15 seconds - Not waiting.

  3. Templo en el Planeta Rojo / Red Planet's Temple

Small temple-like map for Doom 2. A new sky with red clouds, gray stone, green marble, red carpets and bricks. A lot of outdoor views. Made for the original game. Maybe a little hard: be cautious.

  4. TWILIGHT LAB

TWILAB.WAD for DOOM2 is something like a sequel to SPIRIT.WAD. If you don't know SPIRIT then check it out now! By the way, I have just released an improved version of SPIRIT.WAD: a little bit larger, a little bit better and without custom graphic patches.

I included some of my favorite sounds from various DOOM sound collections and a nice piece of music in TWISFX.WAD. They sure make the DOOM feeling much more intense! I think the music is from one of the higher levels in the shareware version of Heretic.

TWILIGHT LAB was designed for single player mode but Multi and DM starts are there as well. It is quite large - if you want to get 100% for everything you might be busy for some 20 or 30 minutes.

  5. THE TROOPERS' PLAYGROUND (repackaged edition)

This is a reupload of the legendary 1996 Doom II episode, The Troopers' Playground v1.03, to repackage it in a manner suitable for modern users. The original version uploaded to /idgames on March 29, 1996 was meant to be installed with a packaged WAD editor, New WAD Tool (NWT), which works by directly replacing already-existing lumps in DOOM2.WAD with identically-named lumps included in the PWAD, unlike the competing tool DeuTex / DeuSF. Unfortunately, this means no modern source ports can read the packaged WADs correctly unless they were specifically designed to do so, as the WADs do not follow the expected, organized format established by DOOM2.WAD. Not only that, but NWT is a DOS application, which means it cannot run on modern operating systems without emulation.

Thus, this repackaged edition restructures both of the affected files, TTP.WAD and TTPDEATH.WAD, to use the same directory format as the Doom II IWAD, and thus allow modern source ports to load them properly. Now you can simply load the appropriate files (i.e. TTP.DEH and TTP.WAD, or TTPDEATH.WAD) just by dragging and dropping them onto your source port of choice. All three included WADs play 100% identically to their original versions, which remain available separately on the archive for historical interest in ttp103.zip. In addition, for users who wish to play the WAD on a DOS machine or a DOS emulator, you can use DeHackEd and DeuSF to install it as normal, and the batch file installers (TTP.BAT and TTPDEATH.BAT) have been updated to match.

This repackaged edition was uploaded with written permission from Matthias Worch, the original author, who went on to become a veteran game developer and whose modern website can be found at worch.com.

A set of four levels, which all push the limits of the good ol' vanilla Doom.

If your computer refuses to cooperate with doom2.exe, I recommend Chocolate Doom: http://chocolate-doom.sourceforge.net/

Has also been tested and found functional on ZDoom. Other ports may or may not break some effects. I really don't recommend playing this on a 3D-accelerated port.

  12. THE ENTRYWAY 2.1

You're not a space marine, not yet... Just last week, you received a message via secret channels that you were to report to the "Axe" chapter of marines ASAP for inprocessing. You're blood was pounding.

As an initiation, you're fellow marines decided to initiate you by sending you to an abondoned castle back on Earth. All you had to do was survive the night while they hunted you down like an animal...

Or so everyone thought. Unknown to you or your comrades, the abandoned castle was actually a hiding place for the leftover demons from "The Cleansing" (the historic name for the events that happened in Doom2). You found yourself fighting for your life from the start, and as you made your way through the castle, you eventually came across the bodies of you campanions, or what was left of them after the hell knights where finished.

Make your way through the "Entryway" and destroy all the evil you may find within. Sure you could run back to base and get reinforcements, but then you just couldn't live with yourself as a real, hard-core space marine....

The level is meant to look like one single building. You might just notice the attention to detail I tried to take into account when creating the level. The outside of the building and anything else that might be exposed to weather has a stone, brick, or bronze texture. BUT, close inspections of the brick textures will show that those openly exposed to the outside are beaten and falling apart, while those inside the building still look new.

Nothing much, but I though it was kind of clever :)

Also, look how the outside walls above the red key are lower than the cage sections. Again, nothing much but I thought that was clever too.

  13. TNT: Resistance

TNT: Resistance is an 8-map vanilla episode for Final Doom's TNT IWAD, featuring maps from various authors. All the maps were tested with Chocolate Doom/chocorenderlimits and should be playable in all source ports (well, almost all). The episode of course takes inspiration from the original TNT IWAD with plenty of new ideas thrown into the mix while only using the original stock textures of TNT.

  14. The Devilz Work

Hello fellow Doomers! Here are 7 SP/coop maps designed for DOS Doom2. I put a lot of calculation into these regarding ammo and health balance. Difficulty levels are present, but only in terms of power-ups rather than monster count. They go in order from easiest to hardest, with map01 having about 50 monsters, and map07 having over 400. Every map has secrets to hunt for, and I've attempted to make them look "detailed" within DOS mapping limitations. I found no visplane overflows when playing through these, so if you do, please notify me! :) Naturally, jumping and crouching should be disabled when playing these, since they're intended for vanilla play. Have fun!!

  15. Sinister Intention

Having been away from Doom mapping for a decade, this was a thing I did to get back into the swing of things.

As a result, these may be bad. And definitely not what I'd call 'finished' -- I'd rather cap this at 7 maps and focus on a 'real' project, thanks. ;)

It may be noteworthy that MAP03 and MAP06 aren't completely new, but were not officially-released when I made them more than ten years ago. I stuck them in here, they kinda fit.

  16. THE UNDERHALLS 1.0

Uh, I'm still working on that. Maybe a storyline will give me a reason to actually release a v1.1. For now, though, use the same story id gave you.

I'm going to PLDC (an army school) in two days as of this writing. If it looks like I cheesed a little just to get this level out, your right. I made it as best I could and I am still happy with it. I have a really good idea for the next level, The Gauntlet, but I'm afraid you'll have to wait about 2 months for it, sorry.

  17. SCIENTIST

It is written in the Holy Bible:

"Dear children, this is the last hour; and as you have heard that the Antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come. [...] They went out from us, but they did not really belong to us. For if they had belonged to us, they would have remained with us; but their going showed that none of them belonged to us."
    - 1 John 2 18-19

"Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see wheather they are from God, because many false prophets have gone into the world"
    - 1 John 4 1

"Many deceivers, [...] have gone into the world. Any such person is the Deceiver and the Antichrist."
    - 2 John 7

In the year 2055 it is clear to mankind who the deceivers are that John spoke of in his Apocalypse.

For some hundred years they have revealed themselfs in great numbers. Their numbers kept growing and so did the number of their followers. They said they were just ordinairy people but they do not fully believe in the way of God. They only believe in their way.

These spirits cannot be trusted. They falsly claim their way is the path to true knowledge and call this false prophecy SCIENCE.

Many of these deceivers are among us now. Any one of them is the Deceiver and the Antichrist who calls himself SCIENTIST.

*NOTE*: Please do not take this story to seriously; There is no quarrel between Science and God (since one of them does not exist).

  23. Sinister Seven - Vanilla Maps by Doomkid

7 sp/coop maps, vanilla compatible (besides map07), with some fresh sprites - I added the extra marine and zombieman rotation angles (Thanks Mr. Romero!). Some of these maps are from submissions to communtiy projects. Special thanks to The_Miano, MrCrispy, Scifista42, TimeOfDeath, pcorf, Buckshot, and everyone else out there who helped or inspired me in some way to make these maps :) STORY: (Continues from the end of 'UAC Rebellion') "The UAC recovered from the destruction left in the rebel's wake. He had taken out most of the head men with brute force and even managed to close the gate to hell they had opened. Most of the survivors thought he was crazy, but some said he was a twisted hero who saw the bigger picture. The fact is, his attempt to stop the UAC failed - He was killed shortly after his return to Earth by a group of hostiles who had survived his rampage. They immediately began rebuilding the destroyed facilities. They rewrote history, erasing the evidence that the UAC had ever experimented on humans, painted the rebel as nothing more than a "cold hearted lunatic", gained support and funding from Earth's remaining population and used it to continue their interdimensional research. I knew the rebel personally. I was with the group of supporters who he let go. I knew the UAC were corrupt bastards as soon as people started going missing. I heard they killed the rebel and were rebuilding, so I prepared myself. Today, it happened - The sky turned a bright red. Two massive portals opened above us. The demonic aliens swept through our base and took out or possessed almost everyone.. Those evil UAC bastards had done it again, only worse. Their plan to brainwash the masses worked, and now destruction incarnate is pouring in from the sky. I can't explain why they want to see the world burn - but here I am, presumably the only survivor in a military base full of hellspawn. It's time to put my training to the test. I know of a spot where I can escape to sea and ride this invasion out on the water. I wonder if anyone else has survived.." I hope you all have fun with these. Difficulty levels are very thoroughly implemented, so if you're finding it too hard, just turn it down a notch! These should also be perfect for survival mode (one of my favorite gamemodes!)

11 SP & 4 DM maps for DooM2. 2.4 Mb when unzipped. Issue2 contains a few bug fixes.

You need a registered version of DooM2 or Final Doom to play this. This wad is not exclusive to any source port and will run with v1.9.

These maps are mainly small but 'ultra-violent' - you won't find many 'former humans' here!! Very challenging - be warned!

The DM maps were never playtested so if they are crap, sorry!

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
