  1. Avatar's Demise

My second ever released Heretic level.

This level oozes atmosphere and plays quite well. It was originaly VERY easy (Hey if I could beat it on UV) so alot of vials and other powerups and ammo were removed making it more enjoyable.

Has a couple of nice surprises with bunches of gargoyles dropping in for a close encounter.

All in all a very cool level.

  4. The CREATURES of LIGHT and DARKNESS

You arrive at Widow's Grieve. It is dusk and not a sound is heard across the forbidding quagmire. Briefly, you consider heading back to Merz's for another stiff one, but some dark magic has silently filled in the tunnel behind you with stone... You curse D'Sparil and this mad quest.

You shudder, knowing full well that luck, as much as anything, has kept you one step ahead of the Serpent Rider so far.

If any of their kind were to ever become aware of this place... Well, let's just say it would be a very bad thing. The locations of the Seven Places of Power are known by an even fewer number of mortal sorcerors. (And sorcerors are pretty damn rare.) Most of them are smart enough to keep their mouths shut. Then again, Merz told you...

You magically summon your last few possessions with an absent gesture. A bottomless pack, a good shield spell and a jar of healthy juice appear nearby. You meditate awhile and then review the facts:

A Power Place IS nearby. You have to find the entrance.

A plethora of Legendary Artifacts no doubt await the eager, heroic mage.

Death (or worse) is the fate of the foolish. Be patient, resourceful and, above all, observant, and you may live to talk about it.

If the means to destroy a Serpent Rider can be found here, then surely a way of escape for you must also exist as well...

You sigh. Your feet are soaked with the cold, oily, green muck. Time to get going. It would be nice to at least find someplace dry before nightfall...

  5. Carnage Galore ver 3.0

This version is MUCH neater than the previous one. Instead of literally hundreds of pictures that would have to be in the Heretic directory and a DMGraph program which can permanently change your iwad, there is one sprites file with a deusf pro- gram that simply merges the sprites file into the iwad and can easily restore it when you are finished playing with the new pictures. It is a great deal faster as well. I also de- leted carnage.doc, which was basically useless anyway.

  6. Big Red (BIGRED11.WAD, v1.2)

This is a "stream of consciousness" wad. In other words: I made it up as I went along. And since I'd like to have you, the player(s), do the same, so to speak, no detailed description or story.txt is provided. If your favorite color is red, you'll be VERY happy here.... If you don't like red (or can't SEE red), my appologies. Maybe next time I'll do Big Blue.

  14. Cemetary.wad (116,409 KB)

This wad is ment for single play, but you can play it on networks as a multiple player game or a deathmatch.

Welcome to my cemetary. This cemetary has been here many many years. Once it was a lovely place in which many people buried their loved ones in graves and tombs. There is also a rumor that there is an underground catacomb hidden here in the cemetary, but nobody knows its location. Many people have found the catacomb enterence, but never came back to tell about it. It seems the catacombs can't be mapped. Unfortunatly this cemetary had to be walled up and closed to the public because of an evil force that was unleashed. Awhile back the grounds keeper uncovered a strange glow seeping through a crack of the one of the oldest tombs. When he opened it up he found that it wasn't a tomb at all, but a well. We refer to it as the well of souls because of the cries that seem to come out of it and the horrible deamons it unleashed. In hopes of keeping the evil in, and people out we borded up the well. Unfortunatly some of the evil escaped leading to strange happenings. The dead litterly woke up and started terrorizing the cemetary. This is when we had to close the cemetary. Unfortunatly nobody knows what became of the grounds keeper. There are rumors he went mad and still lurks inside his house in the cemetary. If you happen to become trapped in our cemetary take shelter in the church, for salvation lies within it.

  16. AZTEC WAD - Heretic

    - This WAD was designed with deathmatch in mind, but it is very playable by a single player or in cooperative mode. For the single player, try skill levels 1-3 for a reasonable challenge or 4-5 for a BIG challenge. For the cooperative players, try skill levels 3 and up. Anything under level 3 wouldn't be that challenging. For the deathmatch lovers choose your skill level based on the number of monsters you like during play. If you prefer no monsters, run it with the -nomonsters option.

This level is called Aztec mainly because I saw a PBS special on the Aztecs that was really cool. The only building really Aztec looking is the Pyramid in the north west part of the map. This level has kind of a downtown (doom2 - map13) feel to it. Even though it is actually quite different, you can see the influences. Please let me know if you like PWAD. I would appreciate any feedback.

  17. AXES

You have the selfconfindence to go through the gates to evil land and wipe out the devil himself.

The game is constructed for a single player, multi plays or dm (deathmatch). After the fourth map the game restarts on the second map, which is good for dm. On the second lap you get all weapons to play with. The first map is an intro (no dm). If you have any problems then change to a lower skill.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
