  6. DMXGUS Gonna Give it to Ya

This WAD contains a replacement DMXGUS lump which you should probably load if you're building a retro PC with a Gravis Ultrasound card (or if you're emulating one).

It does two things: firstly, it has a workaround for the GUS instrument mappings bug present in Vanilla Doom's DMX sound library; secondly, it has an optimized instrument mapping table that is statistically tailored for Doom's music.

I developed this for Freedoom but is useful on its own, so I decided to release it as a standalone WAD.

  7. New sounds for Doom!

I replaced most of the sounds on the registered version of Doom with voice files from the shareware version of "SPISPOPD" (Smashing Pumpkins In Small Piles Of Putrid Debris) The version included all of the .voc files in the game so I used them to replace the sounds in Doom. If you like it, tell me!

  10. GOONS.WAD

Things have got desperate.... The british army has been called in to clear up the sewers under London. You are Major Dennis Bloodnock of the Third Disgusting Fusiliers, a slightly deranged british commando. Armed only with a used wire brush and disinfectant you must attempt to expunge all nasties from the East Finchley sewer system. No job for a boy scout!

These insane sounds were the creation of Peter Sellers, Spike Milligan, and Harry Secombe, under the guidance of Spike Milligan. The world is a richer place for their efforts.

The idea for this project was inspired by the PYTHON sounds produced by... Solomon White, Adam IsGreen & Andre Vrignaud.
("BB Boom Da Da Bing" and "RIGHT!!". All we can say is.. "Nice one centurian")
There WAD file was modified using DMAUD.EXE by Bill Neisius.
    Thanks a ton guys!!

  13. The Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy meets Doom

This file contains samples from the Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy BBC Radio series. The sound effects were literally ground-breaking, with many of them taking days to perfect - followed by axing them for something even wilder.

I've scanned both series (all six hours) for useful sounds, and feel I've been fairly thorough - I have some sounds left over, which I *could've* put in, but I just ran out of spaces to put them in :-) (Fans of the series may like to know that I *ached* over whether or not to sample the lift scene for the lift sound - that was going a bit far though).

This is strictly silly, and should *never* be used for serious Dooming, having the same effect on the atmosphere as 4 Commander Keen's hanging on nooses >;-) Some of the sounds are quite long, and others (esp. the "Naughty" sound) have been deliberately included to annoy the hell out of you after 2 minutes.

  14. PC speaker sound effect format

Finally the last piece in the puzzle of the Doom WAD format has been solved! While every other lump format contained in the Doom IWADs was long ago reverse engineered, one last mystery remained: the PC speaker sound effects. This is a technical description of the PC speaker file format, determined through reverse engineering the Vanilla Doom executables.

Also included is some example code for generating and playing back PC speaker sound effects, and a WAD containing some replacement sound effects.

  17. Denis Leary Doom, V 1.0

I was listening to the CD "No Cure For Cancer" when talking to someone about DOOM, and the idea of making a .WAD came to me. I had played Ash/AoD and the James Brown .WAD's, and found them very funny. But the first time I played Denis Leary DOOM, I almost died laughing (and I died several times while playing, too...). It may not be the best-ever .WAD, but it is likely the funniest.

Created from sound samples taken solely from the CD and edited by me using Windows 3.1 SoundBlaster 16 tools.

I do plan to make a .wad especially for DOOM II (if I can find a .wad tool that works...)

  22. Full Metal Jacket sound patch

Why do I call this v2.0? I converted the full metal jacket sounds to pwad form and found that the size of the thing went from 1.7+ megs unzipped to a mere 200+k uncompressed. A definite improvement by any measure of the word. I guess too high of a sampling rate was used, i.e. 44.1 khz. Well anyway, here it is......

  23. Jesco Doom

For those of you with no clue, tune into Roseanne sometime in May to find out what a real live West Virginia hillbilly is, namely, Jesco White. Or, check out PBS's The Dancing Outlaw which is Jesco White's biography and the source of all these sound samples. If you have seen this video, Jesco Doom will be appreciated for what it is worth, a masterpiece.

For those of you with a clue, you already know it is a masterpiece.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
