  5. CONV2HEX 2.0

CONV2Hex is a table driven converter like the one found in D! (my other big product). And hey.. I realized that it would take about 3 minutes to convert the DOOM/DOOM2 -> Heretic scripts in D! over to the new format, and make them work for hexen (acutally.. I converted to heretic, then to hexen.. it's a long story). So CONV2Hex was born.

Version 2.0 is very powerful. It can now handle around 85% of the different linedef types (see the section on limitations for more information on what it can and can't do), about 50% of the sector types, and all the different textures/things. I've added code to automatically add mega weapons, adjust sector heights (the player in hexen is taller than the player in heretic) and even split up multiple pwads. This converter rocks.... as usual.

Now, this converter is designed to be used by PWAD developers to help them bring their levels over to hexen. Although the levels it creates are playable immediately, they may have no exits, or areas may still not function properly.

  7. TCOUNT

TCOUNT is a DOS program intended to provide WAD writers with a starting point for determining how much HEALTH, ARMOR, and AMMO to place in a WAD based on the total number of damage points of the monsters in the WAD.

Only items in single player mode are analyzed. Multiplayer only items are listed in the raw data file (THINGDAT.TXT) but do not show up in the analyses.

Items in Secret locations are counted in the analysis. TCOUNT assumes that the player is going to find the secrets.

In addition, TCOUNT can be used to examine existing WADS to list the THINGS, find where they are, when they show up, etc.

  9. WADCOMP.EXE and EXTRACT.EXE (also includes LIST.EXE)

EXTRACT.EXE and WADCOMP.EXE are two utilities for compiling WAD files. Together, these two programs should let you build a "custom" WAD file. WADCOMP.EXE is the actual "compiler", and EXTRACT.EXE is a powerful tool for extracting stuff from WAD files. You will find them especially useful if you want to manipulates WADs in a way other programs won't let you. Since these utilities work with directory entries (lumps), you can use them with any valid WAD file, be it a Doom2 WAD or a Heretic WAD.

Also included in this distribution is LIST.EXE, which lets you view the directory of a WAD file. There are many programs out there that do that, and I am including mine only for your convenience, just in case you don't already have one. Also, LIST.EXE will let you check if a WAD file contains a certain entry in batch mode.

  12. WAD-Dir V2.2

A very good (I think it's the best) Shell to play WAD-File for DOOM I / II and HERETIC !!!!!!

WAD-Dir gives you the information you need to play a DOOM I/II or HERETIC PWAD-File (e.g. Episode/Mission) and the information you want (e.g. new graphix or new sound(fx) etc.). After choosen a WAD-File you can play it in DOOM I/II or HERETIC. (And after playing, you are back to WAD-Dir !!!) You can use it for DeatMatch-Startup (with external PWAD's) too. (You don't need any TXT-Files from your WAD-Files, they are take too much disk space.)

I don't know if there are other programs that do this, but maybe you like my program better.

  14. WAD1TO2 v1.01

WAD1TO2 simply maps DOOM1 levels, textures, music, and wall patch entries, that no longer exist, to their DOOM2 counterpart or a close replacement. The program uses an external text map file(WAD1TO2.MAP), which is customizable, to input the mapping information. Alternatively, a map file by a different name can be specified.

  15. WalzTextureReplacer Version 1.0

This program allows you to turn your DOOM 1 PWADS into DOOM 2 PWADS. This program is shareware. In order to use this program you must promise not to bitch about how slow it is. I have very little experience in programming as I am sure some of you are dying to point out. As far as that goes I couldn't give a sh*t. Use it at your own risk (in other words if your computer explodes don't chase me down.) As far as I know this program works fine. I am sure there are some bugs I haven't found, but this program is was only made to hold me over until somebody else made a good one. It is VERY SLOW however. A 300Kb file can take around 30 minutes or more depending on your computer. It was written in Modula-2 so I was very limited. What the program does is search the old wad file for doom 1 texture strings and replaces them with ones that can be used in doom 2.

  23. Show Wad level

SW is a program to read a DOOM wad file and show what levels are present in that wad. The purpose of this is to allow a person finding an unknown wad to discover how to invoke that wad without having to try all 27 combinations. While some, perhaps most wads are E1M1 or E2M1, many (especially those continuing a previous scenario) are not; determining exactly what level and mission the WAD is can be difficult; moreso if the WAD contains multiple levels.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
