  2. Underground Maelstrom

This level really kicks ass. It's a bit HUGE though. Even if you know what you're doing, it probably would take a good hour or so to complete. PLEASE PLEASE try it the first time WITHOUT the Doom cheaty codes. We dare ya to. And remember, SAVE OFTEN! ;D BTW, it seems more people have DOOM2 than DOOM, so many of you will be converting this over to DOOM2. But TRY at least once, to play it in it's original DOOM format. But really, this level is, although made by myself, one of my favorites (especially in multi-player mode). I had a lot of fun making this level.

This is the first WAD I've done with the always popular castle theme, so bear with me. This one has lots of torches (hence the name), marble all around and other castle-like features.

  4. Theme Shock

Your mercenary company has been hired by 'the company' to put down a rebellion on a Scientific Colony (specializing in genetic research). After fighting off meager resistance on the surface, you find your way down to the central bunker, location of the plantary shield generator. Turning off this piece of equipment will allow the company's orbital forces to bomb the outpost back into the stone age. According to the schematic, the generator lies in the hub of the level. The controls to get into the hub are in the computer room (SW corner). Unfortunately, intelligence indicates that the computer room is almost certainly locked down behind three blast doors. The controls to open these are scattered across the installation (author's note: if you pull a switch and don't see an immediate effect, you've probably opened one of these doors).

Of course this plot is one of those 'Alien vs Predator' scenarios. However, you'll be confronting much more than that nefarious duo here. Terminators, crazed scientists, and various other denizens of action movies abound in this level. Play it and see for yourself.

  5. Sewers of DOOM v1.00

It is a little known fact that the moonbase providing the setting for the first DOOM episode (Knee Deep in the Dead) has an extensive waste disposal system. Said waste disposal system went to Hell (pun intended) when the moonbase was invaded, however, leaving sloshing pools of green yuck all over the place. You beat the baddies in the moonbase and wrestled Hell itself to its knees; are you ready for the next challenge? The sewers are clogged with hellspawn, and you've just been named plumber. Guess that cushy desk job will have to wait a wee bit longer...

The moonbase sewer system was designed long after it was built, and has suffered greatly from recent neglect. Emergency doors in some places have all but closed off vital sections, resulting in a tangled maze of tunnels. Power has been mostly restored thanks to the tireless efforts of Union Aerospace Corporation (UAC) engineers, but the computer core is still down. Your mission is simple: kill everything that moves, pick up everything that doesn't, and get out alive.

  6. Skull Hall

Marine Private Sparks having completed boot was on a short leave. While touring the countryside with his sweet baby.....Babs, he chanced upon the Sarge's secret Hole-in the-Wall. Armed with but a revolver Sparks brought that house down! Recovering from wounds incured he got id in his skull that Special Forces was his calling...he had to forget about Babs...poor girl. None had seen her since his heroic though foolhardy attack on the Sargent's lair. UAC did find a lock of her hair.....bloodied. Something hadn't felt right during and after his Special Forces interview with Sgt. Magnus. The sarge, though posesser of a sparkling military record was somehow...illegitamate. So said Sparks gut level feeling. And why did he persistently break into mindless laughter? Sparks was, of course, admitted to SF training. He passed but not before sustaining some rather severe "hard to explain" injuries. One night, quite late, while recuperating Sparks logged onto the UAC BBS to check e-mail and there id was a brief cut-off message from Babs..." Magnus is one of them.. a mindless HellBeast, DON'T " and that was it. Babs was alive and Magnus was Hell Spawn! Unbeknowst to Sparks, Magnus had him under constant surveilance. Before Sprks logged off that night Magnus had trumped up new orders for him. UAC had been working on time travel and had maxed out work with animals. They now needed a human "volunteer". A few electronic manuvers by Magnus and the Time Brigade from UAC was hustling their volunteer Sparks to the transport pod. Will Sparks survive the transport? Where will he be sent? And if he survives how will he get back to give Magnus his due and maybe, just maybe be able to pull Babs close once again and whisper those sweet nothings in her ear!

All originals made strictly for Deathmatch (computers don't develop vendettas & attitudes, as opposed to your so-called "buddies" who take sheer delight in shooting you in the back with the rocket launcher and watching you fly). Wellllll, I suppose you CAN play solo, but I made it tough. And if ya cry like a pansy, then run home to mommie & daddy (nuclear families only) and spend the rest of your empty life playing text adventures on a Mac.... ** POLITICAL INCORRECTNESS R O C K S ** huh uh huh huh huh

Pretty large replacement level for E1M1. Absolutely huge room in the SE corner, heh heh. If it's too hard for ya, try reducing the difficulty level... sissy. :) I left most of secret areas shown as yellow on the map... makes it a little more possible to spot 'em. In UV mode save often... :) This is my first stab at applying creativity towards DOOM. Pretty good, if I say so myself... hope you think so too. Also, I hope everyone has a real copy of DOOM by now, thus the E1M1 replacement. (I figure the release of DOOM II & Heretic has kinda outdated the original.)

  11. The UAC Base -- Doom 1 version

Communications have ceased coming in from a major UAC military base/supply depot/ refueling center in North America. Also, before this happened, the base's chief administrator filed some classified reports with UAC headquarters. These reports expressed his suspicions that some of the base's staff were practicing occult rituals in a secret area of the basement somewhere. As of this time, no one has been able to find these areas. We're sending you in to find out what's going on and 'clean up' if necessary. We're arming you with a pistol only, since this base is one of the leading UAC military supply depots on the planet, with 3 armories stocked with weapons. If you need offensive weapons, seek the armories.

Their first target, the training grounds. Looks like it is a baptism in fire for you, the new recruit lucky (?) enough to survive. 18. Urban Nightmare

The Apocalyspe has finally come to pass... all of Earth lies in ruin after a world-wide nuclear war. You are a lone infantry soldier who has managed to survive. You were lucky (depends on how you look at it) to be in an underground bunker when a nuke hit near your location. After the radiation levels dropped off, you left to search for more supplies. After many days of wandering.... you have come to realize the awful truth... the Earth as you knew it is no more. You can find no signs of civilization or life... except of course if you count the undead. The spawn of hell now roam the Earth... You never really believed so strongly in the super-natural untill now (and you think that pissed them off). You are about to give up and accept death when you come across a city! Maybe there are people alive there! Maybe there are fresh supplies! Or worse yet... maybe the undead, or even worse... perhaps enemy soldiers could be lurking in that city. Only one way to find out.....

  20. Surprise!

    New Levels for DOOM I

Yes, there is a reason for this slaughter:

You are part of an expedition to explore distant solar-systems with an earthlike condition. Good old earth is pretty rundown, so humanity needs a new place to stay. When your ship took of, the crew put you and five of your collegues into some sort of freezing chamber, so you wouldn't use up all the air, food and water. They were supposed to wake you up once the ship had reached an orbit.

    ...

You wake up, eyes closed. Slowly you begin to remember who and where you are. But you can't move yet. You wait for the medics to take you out of the chamber and give you some shots to make you feel bet- ter. You wait. Nothing happens. No medics. As you begin to feel your body again, you open your eyes and look around. Why is your chamber still closed? You realize that, since you're awake now, you will need a lot more air, than when you were still asleep. Why isn't anybody opening the hatch? Panicstricken you try to open it, but it won't move, it's not supposed to be opened from within. In the end you simply smash your fist trough the glass and crawl out, still naked. You shiver. Noone is in the room, all the other chamber are still closed but you can see from the controllights that the lifesupport has turned it- self of. Hastily you open all of them, but too late, your collegues are dead. Then you hear a sound from outside the room - a sound that is not at all human...

However - you know it all from the movies: Your ship is infested with Aliens and you have to kill them all! Get a gun and do it! You remember there is an armoury somewhere near. You also remember a teleport-chamber. You know you have to go there, beam yourself to the evil alien's planet (E2M2), find a way to the caves below the surface (E2M3) and finally find the switch to blow the damned thing up. Sacrifice yourself to save humanity. And if not for humanity, than for the fun.

  21. Underworld

This is my first level. I wish I would have started on this a bit later, then this would be a Doom II WAD. Anyway, the Underworld has a few rooms that are packed with baddies, so be careful where you step; and if you do, be ready (patient) for what comes around the corner! There are a few unmarked secrets, but you can find those when you get the computer map. Try to make it easier on yourself by activating the crushing ceiling BEFORE you enter the crossfire room! (Please drop me some mail and tell me what you think! Any comments or suggestions are welcome!)

Basically, you're a grunt trying to get through the UAC Training Course and join the elite Space Marines. The complete story is included in this zipfile. This patch is both a PWAD and a .DEH file; DeHackEd ver. 2.1 is included.

This is my first PWAD, and it served as a tutorial for several editing utilities. I think it's decent, and fairly difficult (though short). I plan to make more in the future.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
