MAP01-03 are not too exciting; room-corridor-room layout, not too pretty, not too ugly (OK texturing but too many dark areas), boring combat.

MAP04 got me and I actually said "wow". For some reason it is called "The Shotgun Factory"; it is long, much of it is even more room-corridor-room, and very sparsely populated; John Bye reincarnate? I was about to fall asleep, but the last few rooms are very unique and unorthodox.

MAP05 and 09 are weak; MAP07 joins MAP01-03 for being not memorable. MAP06 has cool music and it's maybe the best, with good grey/silver base looks and more "teeth" (monster density). MAP08 looks very nice and it's crazy about making the player revisit the same areas so many times (but it's short and easy). MAP10 is fine and MAP11 looks like a joke because of its simplicity.

After playing I realized there's one Tomi Rajala map here. All in all, don't expect stellar quality, but 04 (the ending),06,08,10 are worth checking. Tech base is the main theme.

Awesome! The level designs are really good and interesting. I'd give 5 stars, but I really hate how Lau seems to have a shotgunner fetish. :/

These levels were a good first release for most of the authors. At least worth 3/5.

Map08 is good. Download for that map. The others are average. 4/5 for Map08.

LAST DAY ON EARTH - Rise of Hell - by Team Apocalypse... Perhaps a little bit disappointing for the architectural aspect, which is quite simple, but perfectly harmonized with a very fine gameplay and a great and challenging amount of life and ammos. I would have given a 5 stars with more architectural details. 4 stars -Jive

Worth the dl for Map08, excellent level there. Unfortunately the rest is very mediocre.

I remember when this was about to be released, and there was quite a buildup on DW, of course the end result was a little bit dissapointing, but the levels are still quite good, maybe by about 1998 standards instead of 2000, if you liked "Bio war" then you'll like this, thats about the level of detail it has, also there is plenty of creatures to slaughter with the SSG, and thats what counts!

Not bad really. The "fun" aspect is tremendous here, though the layout is obsolete (well, for me the gameplay is the most important facet of each level)..

If this only had more attention spent on detail. It was fun to rip through on UV. 7/10/07

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
