THE WORLD OF DETH -FROM HEAVEN TO HELL. V2.0

About This File

At last I am done with my first and last MegaWad. After years of building. But I admit I haven't dedicated my entire life to Doom.....:) If I had I would probably had launched the wad much earlier in my dooming career.

By the way I havn't introduced myself. My name is Morten Stromsvold. Also known as The Big One among friends. (TBO for shortening). Ok...enough of the chit-chat. Her is some information about The World Of Deth.

The World Of Death is an original Doom 2 MegaWad. There is no new textures, weapons or new monsters. But there are 32 new levels. Some of them are actually pretty good, if I may say so. Not that I am braggart.

The World Of Deth is played best on Ultra violent single player mode. There is also oppertunity for Deathmatch and Coop.

When I started building this MegaWad, it was originally intended for Ultimate Doom. And I was using DEU. But everything changed when I got DETH. The quality of the levels increased, and I decided to convert to Doom 2. ( After fixing them a fucking lot). The fixing took more time time then the actual building, that was the easy part.

A very good one-person megawad. Whereas usually single-author megawads suffer from repetitions, and this one is no exception with regards to texturing (all of it is wood, metal and plaster), the actual level design is really creative over-all. Difficulty builds up to a climactic final level.

Awful megawad, lots of big areas with no interesting design or texture design, many lowering or going up platforms, awful monster placement, dropping chaingunners and hellknights at you even on map01 with very few ammo.  No monsters with "deaf" flags, you just have to lower a platform, make a shot and wait for all the monsters to come at you to shoot them down one by one at the bottom of the platform.

Secrets are ridiculous, not enough clues to find and if you find one is only to be ambushed by monsters only for a couple of shotgun shells.

Monsters hidden under transparent wall/wood textures, they can see you, you can't and when you realize where they are, they've already shot you down.

2 stars for the effort of doing 30 long maps.

Edit: as a regular rule in Doom mapping, locked doors should give a hint which color key is needed to open them.  In this wad I only saw 1 map doing that, all the other maps didn't have any clue for the locked doors making navigation really painfull

One of the first megaWADs I ever downloaded from idgames so I'm a little biased when I say I liked it and still kind of like it today despite its flaws. Still fun to play through on occasion despite the sameyness and 90's design. Map 8 has a thing where you can get stuck after getting the yellow key if you ain't fast enough.

for something made in the year 2000, the design is pretty 90's, but the gameplay is just awful. there are just too many hitscanners in many of the maps (try dodging the chaingunners in the MAP12 city layout on UV) and some bullshit traps in a lot of other maps.

This is an oldschool megawad that has a mid-ninties flair. The maps aren't overly detailed and you won't find much innovation in here, but it's fun nontheless. The 32 maps - all challenging enough but not too hard - have a nice flow. The secrets are well hidden, by the way, almost always with no visible sign, so that you literally have to knock on every wall if you want to find them all. 4/5 -Milian

I checked the properties of the WAD File. The WAD File was last updated on Saturday, May 03, 1997, 3:10:24 PM. For an OldSchool WAD this is some sweet stuff. 5/5 for a blast from the past.

A pretty good megawad, although a bit lacking in variety.

Gameplay isn't bad, 4/5 for that, but -1 (so 3/5) for overusing the same textures.

Remember this one, it was the green/brown megawad. Not my favorite and don't plan to relive it again.

I can dig it. Nothing mind-blowing, but it's a good, solid set with some great gameplay.

The more I play this, the more I appreciate its qualities. The visuals may not be spectacular, but a lot of care and planning went into these maps. Certainly one of the better one-man megawads.

only if there were more different textures, not just green rock and brown wood everything. but, however... not bad, man. 5.0/3.5

The theme is shotguns, tons of imps and minimal ammo and health. If I had the choice I had to use single barrel shotgun. A lot of times I finished a level with no ammo and little health. It's kind of annoying. The secrets must be good. You might be almost finished and step in a small area of toxic with no way out. That was annoying too. It's good in that a lot of times what I thought would happen would not. Definitely worth trying.

The maps in this WAD are VERY good and well thought out. Not too difficult, nor too easy on ultra-violence, just perfect. However, the lack of variety in the textures really made a lot of the levels boring despite great gameplay. My favorite levels were Little Hell and Sky Scraper. I did actually enjoy this WAD more than other praised WADs like The Darkening though, so that says something. Excellent job. 3.5/5 - DG

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
