you normally associate Ed Cripps with intricate level design and nasty teleporting hordes. there's not a lot of that to find in Sin City, which is relatively mild. it is a ZDoom set, with slopes and a few bits of puzzle here and there (Quake-style). compared to his other works, this really does not compare at all, but if you're just looking to play some mild ZDoom map give it at least one go for the sake of it. it's short, low monster count, low actual challenge. you don't see that in Ed's newer maps these days. then again, this is perhaps his first singleplayer level.

A Quake I-styled level with plenty of ZDoom features, including some clever scripting. The visuals (and music) are very good but unfortunately the gameplay is pretty underwhelming -- there's barely any challenge and even on UV the level feels downright empty. The occasional use of stealth monsters is more of an annoying gimmick than anything. At one point it's easy to get stuck in an inescapable pit due to an easily misinterpreted on-screen hint.

Good architecture and style but gameplay is too boring and easy and it is too short. 3/5

The whole design itself is very good. Most of it was straight forward, but it took me a while to find the red key, then I couldn't get out of the pool. I was pretty stumped after the yellow key as well, so I assume I missed something.

Lovely piece of work, although a bit short. The detals are stunning to look at, as well as the texturing. Would certaily love to see a level set like this but with a bit more opposition and ammo. The second one, although its longer, just doesnt ,measure up. 5/5 solid !

This is a good-looking ZDoom map that was, I believe, one of Doomworld's ten best levels of its year. It plays well, too, although it's tight on ammo and not very long. There's one slightly unfair bit; near the end you have to dive into some blood in order to get a key, and although there's a big clue, the blood doesn't look very different to the extremely deadly lava that pervades the rest of the level. Unless you're very brave you'll wander around aimlessly for a bit at this point.

Looks very good, but imo too sparse with health. The first Archy killed me once ;)

Heh, well textured, the design makes it look great even though it's mostly 1-2 textures. Nice layout too. 4/5 - Belial

Very nice. As mentioned above, the texturing job was great, and the flow of the layout was awesome. I loved the slope usage too. :D 5/5 -Tango

5 stars for a great map and a classic, but I really wonder why this map's theme is so out of sync with the other two (id=11846 and id=15393). That's not that it's a problem, in fact I liked the theme a lot, it just makes me wonder why the theme changes. The Descent 2 music in this and the second one I think is a good choice, because those tracks are rarer heard compared to Heretic/Hexen/ROTT/m aybe Blood/Duke3D, etc. 5/5

The map has some nice tricks and traps, but all in all it was pretty bland. It was also way too easy for my likings and some rooms were too big and empty. Nevertheless, the map alone looked pretty cool.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
