About This File

11 SP & 4 DM maps for DooM2. 2.4 Mb when unzipped. Issue2 contains a few bug fixes.

You need a registered version of DooM2 or Final Doom to play this. This wad is not exclusive to any source port and will run with v1.9.

These maps are mainly small but 'ultra-violent' - you won't find many 'former humans' here!! Very challenging - be warned!

The DM maps were never playtested so if they are crap, sorry!

Map 31 is an unfished map by Malcolm Sailor which I have modified.

- Tense but enjoyable!

- Don't play this if you're "Hurt me plenty" player.

- Too many closed doors which cannot be opened, confusing!

- Some switches are nothing but an ordinary texture no different than adjacent textures which make them

   very hard to spot.

- Would give it 5 stars if it was a complete map set. only 10 maps!

Richard Wiles has made some of the hardest levels ever for Doom and Doom 2 and this is no exception. No room for error in this map set.

very difficult mapset when played on UV. MAP01 is just too much but the other ones are a bit better.

Very good map set. Looks very good. Game play like slaughter maps most of the time. Very few power-ups to help you out. Some exits are poorly marked. 4/5

I didn't like how the difficulty comes from restricted amount of resources and limited space to move in. While maps with large monster hordes (hr24/av26 etc.) always stay difficult, this becomes a piece of cake once you know where everything is. In fact I did about half of the maps on first try on UV, with methodical, careful play. 3.5 rounded to 4/5

Another good Richard Wiles wad. In fact, "good Richard Wiles wad" is kind of a redundancy.

Played this one a few years ago with doom95, and always remembered it with some dread, heh heh... had forgotten how good this was! Play it with Brutal Doom for extra gore... Recommend!

These maps are good but so FUCKING HARD!!! I died lots of times in this one because there were many unfair fights!!! I played with AEOD 5.29.1 and that's why maybe was so hard. I didn't enjoy that much. I give 3/5. -Doomer95

A great, tough and violent 10 level set from the author of Crusades (my all time favorite doom1 set). The maps reminded me a lot of "plutonia" in both style and gameplay. There is also a bonus single map and some deathmatch levels which I'm not interested in, but should be good for deathmachers as well. I really recommend this.

An excellent package. The first level seems out of place compared to the rest but they're all very well constructed and the intense fights are always fun.

Though I prefered "crusades", these 10 brutal levels are great aswell, although I don't know why the author choose to separate map 31 as it fits in quite nicely. Be warned: gameplay is brutal and malevolently designed (as in to kill off the player, unfair), especially map 01! -TeH NeXuS

A nice set of fun and challenging maps throughout. I like the untypical and intentionally awkward monster placement that will make speeding through the maps difficult. So an aptly titled classic wad deserving of 5 stars. -TRRobin.

NOT FOR THE BEGINNER!! Great 9 tough SP maps, 2
ultra-hard bonus maps, and DM maps!! (Episode
starts at map02, for map01 and map 31 are
bonusses. DM maps start around 25.) Good for the
master doomers, like me!! Visually amazing.
Unless a beginner: DOWNLOAD NOW!!

It throws tons of monsters at you and doesn't give you much time to breathe in between fights. It's a lot of fun, though, if you've got the skills, and will certainly keep you busy for a while. If there's anything I didn't like, it was the brevity of this WAD. It's really just 10 levels, and I felt that was too short (I must be a masochist that way lol).

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
