Ruma.

About This File

A base around a brown canyon. Was going to be map03 of my mini episode, but didn't fit the theme. And the new map03 is so much cooler anyway. =) I kept the gray start/exit part for new map tho.

Ruma surprisingly landed as one of the Top 100 wads of all time, which, judging from just playing the wad itself, is quite surprising considering how short and actually uninteresting the whole wad is. compared to Espi's more notable wads, such as Back To Basics, Suspended in Dusk, and even Laitos, which was released in the exact same year, Ruma doesn't offer much. the combat is pretty tough overall as you might expect, and it's sort of a mini-challenge with what's given, a shell-centric level in other words. but it's full of brown especially in the open field which is easy to maneuver around in and the side areas don't offer a whole lot. all Ruma is remembered for is that one bridge and that's about it. it's an average level at the very worst and at the very best.

Doesn't really stand out that much, apart from the nice-looking rope bridge, but it's still a solid level.

how about you guys play this the way it was intended to be played instead of using shitty gameplay mods that will always be unbalanced because they were never tested with every wad?

next to impossible with PB the enemies we're either too OP or too many... or both gets 3/5

It's not overly detailed, but has some nice ideas. (Especially a really nice suspension bridge caught my attention.) The fights are enjoyable, too, though not too challenging. Maybe with some more effort into layout and detailing, and making the map larger, this wad would be a really convincing work. As is now, it's too superficial and too short. 3/5

Hey, this map is cool! Actually, I like it more than his Suspended In Dusk episode. Good design, good gameplay... Just download it and play, stop reading this shit! :-P 4/5 - Demonologist

Good... GOOD! the bridge is very nice. Anyways, "RUMA" means UGLY in Finnish ;) but I think that wad is not -ruma- that way.

Pretty cool level. The new sky texture was nice too. I wish it was a little longer and there weren't as many revenants.

It's ok, I'm not too big on that brown theme with very little color variety and there is a "block monsters" line near the lift that lets you easily kill everyone from a safe spot.

If it's short, that's not a bad thing. If it's not overly detailed, that's not a bad thing either. In fact, I love Espi's use of detail. He doesn't embellish and as a result his levels look really nice. So, ya got any other lame complaints?? 5/5

more details to increase the atmosphere would have been good, it's a great map 4.5(5)/5

For a horrible moment I thought this was a very early Ruba map. But no. It's from May 2002 and it's a solidly violent techbase in the mountains, with 130 baddies. The gameplay is structured so that there are two setpiece battles in a central canyon. It's not too demanding (you have lots of rockets) but it's fun. The design is classic-style and as the other reviews point out there's a nice rope bridge, which leads to a secret you don't really need.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
