About This File

A nocturnal level, in a long twisting valey. This is my 17th level and full of nice surprises! Finally you have found out about the last stronghold of this demon leader, and you are about to terminate it`s destruction rout on earth, once and for all! It is in the valey of death and has a strong fortress, good luck!

Great theme, foreboding evil atmosphere, fun gameplay that is on the forefront, complimented by a fantastic totally non linear layout... and it has cleanly cut 90's old school style architecture that is aesthetically pleasing without distracting detail... modern mappers (myself included) can take design tips from levels like these. Fantastic unpretentious level! 5 Deathevokation

This is a very good map. It's medium to large-sized and has a good mixture of standard indoor and canyon-like, dark outdoor areas. Gameplay is quite challenging, mainly because Sphagne was stingy with ammo. I did a lot of the work with my fists and still needed some additional shell boxes. On the other hand, there was enough dressing material to cure the wounds that all baddies left on my body. A nice, atmospheric and action-filled map - recommended! 4/5 -Milian

You'll definitely be lost in this massive, nonlinear canyon map. The keys must be obtained in sequence, but you can explore around three quarters of the map before. Despite the vanilla Doom limits, the landscaping is beautiful, with grim, dark gray cliffs dotted with dead and dying trees. The map oozes with an eerie, morbid atmosphere, and the gameplay is top notch, with some good traps, a risky courtyard battle near the end, and moderate difficulty. A keeper for sure. 5/5 --Woolie

Not what I expected from a Tormentor667 wad. Not worth the hype at all. 2/5

^Hey dipshit, this isn't Tormentor667. The txt file clearly says SPHAGNE as the author. Tormentor667's STRONGHOLD hasn't been uploaded to /idgames yet because it's in beta testing. Please give yourself a retro-active abortion because you are too fucking stupid to be alive.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
