The BEST Doom I megawad around! 36 fun and great-looking levels by talented authors! Many maps in each episode have the same style as the same episode of the original, while a few maps divert to different styles (except in E1, where the E1 style is retained throughout). While some may complain that not every map in the other episodes mimics the style of the originals, I didn't mind this myself as there is still plenty of Classic Doom style in here. And it sure looks great and is TONS of fun! 5/5

"...great architecture and lots of hard work, put into every level. A recomended download"...Well, pcorf certainly isn't humble, is he? All that "hard work" and he still manages many misspellings in the text file(rescue you're wife, you're ticket, recomended, etc). As much as I want to downrate this due to Paul's arrogance and his awful music, I have to give it 5/5 because it deserves it. The levels are well-designed as a whole and fun to blast through.

I'm shocked "odyssey" was spelled right, must have had help on that one. Should have kept em around for the rest of the writing. good maps though.

It's great to see someone actually chose to replace the doom1 instead of doom2 megawad. Regardless, this are pretty cool maps, when you play it through it comes across as a nicely flowing MW, even if the individual maps themselves don't stand up like in some other MWs. My fav was e3m5 which is basically all that original e3m5 was supposed to be. The levels closely follow the theme of episodes (ep4 had some techy stuff...), which makes it a nice reworking of udoom. Recommended. 5/5 -TeH NeXuS

Masterpiece, especially E2M1! Easily my favorite level in the Megawad.

Not much to say other than this is probably the best ultimate doom PWad ever made. The levels vary in gameplay style from some levels where you can fly through it spamming rockets and plasma, to ones where more care is needed. Of course there are levels which are not my cup of tea and some which are broken (E3M3 comes to mind) On the whole this is a masterpiece which has not been surpassed since (which is a shame really) 5 stars. Masterpiece of Megawads. I really love the music of E2M1, E2M4/E4M2 and E3M7. Excellent work, seven stars out of five.

An excellent wad. My favorite Doom I wad overall, although I think the brand new Death Tormention 3 is now my favorite Doom I episode ever. Still better overall, since it has more levels. 5/5

Ok, so this will be a 3/5 because: - E1,E2 and most of E3 are only average (E3's M5, M6 and M7 are good/v.good, - E4 is easily the best of the set but it is still very unbalanced (E4M6 simply perfect, the rest between above average/v.good), - the music didn't do a thing for me (it just sucked), - gameplay is also average,

I think it's a cool megawad for Doom 1 but it could have been better! 3/5 -FistMarine

It unusual to see a full megawad for DOOM 1. In fact, the only other I can think of is Invasion, which I didn't really like. So, the levels really do a gerat job reconstructing the whole doom1 experience. I liked all the episodes, as thay remain true to original styles but manage to improve upon the originals. Especially ep3 is impressive, for I tought the original ep3 was a pretty rushed, poor quallity set, so this ep3 was just how I wanted it to be in the first place. Best maps:e3m5, e2m9 and e4m6. A 5.

For some reason this wad uses the music of whatever CD I have in at the time. It took me quite awhile to realize the WAD had not used Pretty Hate Machine for the soundtrack lol

Im surprised I haven't review this wad yet. What they say about this wad is true. This is what DOOM was meant to be. Great architecture and lighting make this more then worth downloading. Add uncriticized gameplay, beautiful new textures and skys, great music, etc and fuse it into a great 37 (If you're playing it with teh zdoom) level pack made by true masters. Legendary -Dron

Not terrible, but hugely overrated. Cramped, ugly, symmetrical, predictable, and boring. I'll never understand why this gets so much praise.

The gameplay was broken like usual with switches all over the map, monsters popping out and you having to kill them one by one. It felt like how the reviewer above me put it, "a chore." The music was hit-or-miss, a few of the tracks were interesting but didn't fit in with the level, some of them were just plain bad and would only fit in a jokewad like SPACIA, and a select few were chosen well for the level. I like how it's a UDoom wad, so I give it a 3/5.

Terribly repetitive, boring, completely uninspired design. Harmless and predictable traps, dull and amateurish level layouts, and thoroughly mediocre visual design. Probably the worst highly-acclaimed megawad I've ever played.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
