About This File

Two episode 2 styled levels for Ult. Doom. They ooze of 'The Shores of Hell' with their strange environment and strange design! So you might not be a big episode 2 fan? Well, I urge you to try this out anyway! It's action packed, moody and will pack a powerful punch if you're not carefull!

Two pretty fun E2 levels, with the second map standing out as especially good. The architecture is varied and good-looking, and there's a hefty amount of fun challenges to be had (although the final battle, set in an uncomfortably small room, is likely to get you killed if you don't know what's coming.)

I was disappointed by this; the second level was large but dull, with a fiddly, cramped design and too much wandering around looking for switches and triggers etc. The first level was good but very short and the pair of them together don't warrant any extra stars. They're certainly not "brilliant" or "absolute perfection". The few echoes of E2 weren't even entertaining.

If you are tempted to play Uac Mine for E2 style maps and haven't played this, I VERY STRONGLY suggest you play this first, as Uac Mine is quite average and this, to see the least, is absolute perfection when it comes to capturing and expanding the E2 feel. 5/5 stars.

Too bad Chris never finished the episode. If so we'd have to true CH Retro, E2 style. But worth 5/5 regardless.

A legendary map, for sure. Chris Hansen proved that simple architecture and detail can make a map look amazing if done right. The lighting is very impressive, in particular. Every room has a light source that creates a great effect. The game play department isn't too shabby, either. There are plenty of traps to keep Doomers on their toes. Monster progression and ammo is well balanced. Ritesmit isn't overly challenging, but has enough variation in the monster placement to keep the experience interesting.

Brilliant pair of levels in a corrupt base style. Very good both in gameplay and visuals. 5 stars, highly recommended.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
