Very nice maps, and nice in keeping the lengths down. Sort of like Demonfear/Scythe/102 4 megawads/maybe Scimitar but these maps are perhaps a bit bigger; that said, it isn't incomparable either. Recommended very highly, especially if you enjoy megawads that keep level size down, and a must try/play even if you have no problems with other megawads. 4.5(5)/5

*Ahem* Ignoring the jackass above me, This is a well made set of levels. Personally, I enjoyed the amount of detail put into the levels. 5/5

Just got done, very neat stuff! I love the bite-sized maps (can't stand maps that drag on and on), the mild challenge, and the cool design ideas. I really couldn't wait to see what would come next, and I was usually pleasantly surprised. This is what Doom 2 should have really been. I'm knocking one point off for some stuck enemies, and you should have included a DeHackEd patch for the rain actor. 4/5 --Ceeb

TVR! exemplifies small levels, with cutesy design and nice gameplay. you're dealing with levels that will likely take two minutes minimum if you're really fast, but nowhere near nine minutes or so. while the gameplay is somewhat easy, the difficulty helps newer players quite substantially, and the cutesy design goes for the Doomcute route multiple times. look at how well the train level at the beginning is done, then afterwards, you get to shoot open vents, see rain particles, see some weird trucks, deal with resort areas, lab rats, a giant snake. realism is no way a bad thing, in fact if done well it is better than some of the unreal maps. nifty ideas abound in TVR!, it's not something that should be passed up.

One of the best and most all around complete megawads I've played. The gameplay is probably what makes it stand apart from the rest more than anything, with its slick, simplistic flow - but the simple, yet appealing architecture goes hand in hand and makes it a fun journey. Very much reccomended for cooperative play as well. This is the minimum ammount of gameplay quality and design effort all wad releases would have, in a better world. 4.7/5 stars. -Johnsen

Starts a little unspectacular, rain effects don't really work. BUT: The more you progress, the better it get's. Especially the later levels are very, very impressive. Played through it 3 times and that won't be the last. Try this out !!! In general: the best Megawad i ever played(except for the original IDwads).

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
