Remember when Sergeants were trouble? Remember when there were lots of nooks and crannies but NOWHERE to hide? TVR has it all, Including the infamous chaingun guy sniper spots. -csonicgo

I'd give this a 4. I'm playing on UV and the monster count is a little too low, imho. BUT, this is a great megawad. Some maps are average but on the whole here are some really cool maps. I'm still playing this, almost done too. Really enjoying it! Just wish sometimes there was more monsters....

Excellent work I like the modified textures a lot, and the fact that the levels connect to each other. One small point of improvement was that I got stuck in map 10 this should not be possible! But hey, no one’s perfect. For a one man job this is defiantly an amazing wad! ~Lucas~

This is the second by Thomas van der Velden that I've played and it's very similar to the first one (tv1998). It's a collection of 32 quite short maps with again less than 100 monsters on skill 3, often less than 50. It's looking quite good, due to some nice new textures and I liked it a lot. The maps are quite consistent in quality with no dropout at all. Maybe they could have been more challenging. 4/5 -Milian

The maps get better as you go along, although I think is Nulth Precint (map02) of the Community Chest Megawad is better than virtually all of these maps, and hise map30, Evil Itself may also be better. Very decent wad though. I am waiting for the sequel.

Just finished playing. Great work, atmospheric, not very hard and with cool, fast and fluent gameplay. Impressive architecture and great ideas (big worm, castles, cemetery, river with boats, pyramid and a lot of other interesting and rarely seen in doom things). There are minor glitches in few places (in gameplay department), but overall asskicking set. Despite using plain doom2 engine, this is much more enjoyable than majority of sophisticated boom/zdoom maps.

A good megawad for one man and very well themed. The levels are mainly small but are quite good and have some neat parts.

The levels are good and well made but a bit too small and some are very easy. Overall a good joob.

I'd like more of this kind of WADs. Small levels, funny ideas, new graphics. I was playing for 7 hours and finished this one and the previous from Thomas. 5/5 - Optimus

Very nice maps, and their realism rules. Map01 sucks a bit tho, but get alot better later on in the megawad. -Torn

Excellent fun, nice looking without high sector counts and fairly challenging at points even with the low number of monsters. The music from Doom2 even went quite well for the most part too. Excellent job! 5* -Phobus

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
