About This File

THE STORY OF DOOM2:2 After you've destroyed the icon of sin, earth gets re-built, countrys come together, everyone's happy. 5 years after your retirement, you get a call from your old commander, Commander Ragg. He calls you up and goes "TaaaGGGAAARRRTTT!!!! The military has recently built a prototype time machine, and we need some tough marine to test it out. What do you say, buddy?" You think about it for a sec, and answer "...you got yourself a time machine pilot" You enter the time machine, deep in a secret part of a new military installation. The time machine activates and you get thrown 5 years in the past. You emerge from the time ship and look around... oh god- not again! Yep, it looks like you landed at the beginning of the demon invasion of the starbase. Oh well. Since the time machine is broken, you're going to have to fight them all over again, through exactly the same levels.

Kind of derivative of the same style id used when making the original maps. Also, the secret levels have stolen Wolfenstein resources, so I'm surprised this hasn't been taken down. Still pretty decent, I give it 3/5

That was an insult to my intelligence and a nice surprise. And you didn't make any levels identical, I tested with freedoom and none of the leels are replaced.

I take it noone actually read the fucking text file? The storyline is that you go back in time and accidently wind up in the beginning of Doom2. This was so dumb that it actually made me laugh. :P 2 stars, just because it made me laugh. -Giest118

People's senses are humour may or may not be intact, but that isn't relevant here; this wad is not remotely funny. It's simply a waste of time and space.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
