About This File

Nightmares of Loki is a cryptic hallucinagenic Nightmare. This version contains 3 episodes and level starts to the 4th This game was started in 1995 under the name 'doom legacy' After a source port was discovered with the same name, it has been renamed in 1999 to 'Nightmares of Loki' The story is little to nothing but the levels are the focus. These levels are HUGE and they'll piss you off, so SAVEGAME! works great in zdoom, 2 levels crash in jdoom. made for the original 'Ultimate Doom' v1.9

meh. i'll fix it 15 years later lmao I was thinking of honestly doing a before/after sequel where it looks 100x more detailed and has real scripted fun. might just redo #1 too, it'll be completely diff. I would like to apologize for this wad, I honestly did not know /newstuff chronicles and reviews existed as I hastily uploaded my very first 'tried hard' wad to the ftp. keep in mind the year I started this was the winter that I got doom in the first place.

I think the creator was drunk at the time(s) of it's making. Bad levels and horrible textures. Very repetitive. 1 room\4 doors with 1,000 connected to them. I can make a wad like this (without the textures) in a day, and make it better!

Utter fail. Joins Hyena and Final Fantasy to be the only Doom I megawads I can't at least somewhat recommend.

If you are really, REALLY bored, these 36 maps will consume a fair bit of your time. But the size of the levels is the only possible strength - they are all bland, annoying, poorly done, and boring. Playing this will feel like an absolute chore unless you really have NOTHING else you haven't tried already.

36 levels; unfortunately every one of them is boring and forgettable. Unless you only care about quantity, or you somehow love incredibly plain maps, avoid these levels.

The above. I hate to pan precious Doom I megawads, but frankly here there's no other choice besides lying. It's not only that these levels go on for way too long either, as nearly every second of it is more 'same old, same old' boredom, and if they were shorter they would still not be in any manner 'fun'. If you want to play this to finish, be prepared to force yourself hard, because you probably won't even finish E1M1 before losing interest. And there's no point in that, so just avoid.

Hey people, he kept his word, "Nightmares of Loki is a cryptic hallucinagenic Nightmare." I give this wad 3 stars, right in the middle, cause a lot of stuff is pointless, but some of it isn't half bad. I hope the creator doesn't think about killing himself after taking in all the abuse from people in the DW Forums. :P -Infurnus, gamemasta@att.net

I like it because of its unusual and psychadelic qualities. The puzzles frustrate me though. I guess the puzzles are part of the game, but I, myself, am not much one for puzzles. I'm still trying to work them out though, but I would like a "hint (HINT, not SPOILER!) file" to help me out so I can move on with looking at the kewl colors, listening to the nice MIDI-techno music, and defeating the somewhat-strange monsters ahead. I gave it a 4, 'coz I don't think it's that bad and is rather novel.

Gets boring real fast. The "Sin City" wad (nothing whatsoever to do with the comic or movie) did the whole "change colors of textures to lend psychedelic feel" thing much better, and created some nicely playable levels to boot. Feh.

It's shocking that some people have given this some stars. One of the very worst wads ever created for Doom.

HERE in Brazil, "loki" means "great fool" so, i think, this wad can be called nightmares of a great fool...

Full of HUGE levels an NO content to justify such hugeness. One of the most boring and painful megawads you can play. It takes a long time and fun is very sparsely found. It should be a lesson that maps don't get points for being huge. They lose points for it when content is missing.

Classic. Long, Challenging, Pisses Me Off Like A Bad Jokewad, and is fun for wasting time. 5/5. Seriously, I played this back in 2004 and I'm playing it again in 2011 just for memories lol. - Admiral Xolzo.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
