Claustrophobia: The Walls Close In

About This File

An addon for Doom2 ZDOOM with three new levels, new music/graphics, lots of ACS scripts, a dehacked patch and a storyline. These maps were made with the concept of claustrophobia in mind, hence the name. Don't expect to have plenty of space to dodge. On a side note, this is the first wad in which I experiment with STARTAN textures.

I agree with both Kirby X & Giest118. this is one of, if not the best WADs i've ever played. and i've played a lot. i would give 4 stars because of the gore-pits which slow down my comp even more than the boss fights, which are insanely difficult, but this is just too damn fun. *****

Simply amazing. 5 stars for the atmosphere alone, story, gameplay, architecture aside, because I can only give 5 stars.. 5/5 -N

The level design is a bit too linear, but it looks beautiful. It's pretty obvious that the reason for this entire thing were the boss battles, which are absolutely awesome. I was wondering if there existed a Doom wad based on bullet hell shooters (since Doom itself can lend itself to that style of playing on occassion) and now I've found one. The absolutely horrible plot detracts somewhat from the enjoyment though. 3/5 in all, but you can definitely get better.

It starts out with a perfect scary enviroment with well placed music very detailed sceneries using much of Zdoom's features and even well balanced monsters and items. I might give best scores for this aspect. However, when all those bosses come in, the game slows down on my AMD-K6 due to millions of fireballs flying around at once, and the bosses are invulnerable most of the time, so you have to shot in the very right moment. Those boss fights are way to un-doomish for my taste anyway.

A must play if only for the ludicrous boss battles.

Looks great, but gameplay-wise it sucks ass a bit. Atmosphere is impressive, and maps such like islands floating over hell are totally beautiful, but difficulty of battles (especially with bosses) kills most of enjoyment. OK, I can handle assaults in tight and cramped areas, maybe it's bit annoying, but have a nice realistic touch, but boss battle which looks like mega-firework-fest? No way, say NO to nuclear weapons :) 3/5 -- Brun Ohn

Nice looking original wad, with great atmosphere. But completely let down in the gameplay department. Author takes the name too far, gameplay is completely linear, with some stupid boss battles. Plus the flow is completely screwed by constant, lame and very long cutscenes whch try to explain some retarded 'plot' that doesn't make a damned bit of difference to the game at all. 3/5 (for the detailing)

Awesome in several ways. **** Also, whoever you are 2 reviews above, you are a real idiot. First off, WTF are you flaming for no reason for? Second, it IS 6.66 MB. Take a look for yourself. http://img411.images hack.us/img411/5638/ noname0zx.png Anyways, loved the use of PSX music (didn't like the other, loud ones so much though), the closedness, and the scripting. Nice work. -ace

awesome wad dude!! I think this is VERY VERY enjoyable, there's a lot of suprises, which made me scared. However, the bosses are hard to kill, especially the second. The difficulty settings, are well made, as i died very easily at hurt me plenty. The design really fits the wad's name. It's very claustrophobic. The music, the small areas, made a claustrophobic feel. This wad ROCKS!! (5/5) -dancso

The story-driven level was good, but I found an error on map02, when you can trigger the friend script. The map04 script makes it too hard to comprehend. Do I have to wait for some time before the black doomimps are killed? I hate those unfriendly soulspheres, wtf? oh well. ~2/5

Excellent all the way, especially the boss battles on UV. Straight out of a console game I say :) The last boss gave me some grief, but he's far from unbeatable. 5/5 - Belial

That meeting with the Archvile in that corridor was awesome. And I love how the music is slow to build tension, then changes when something happens, like the Archvile, to ramp up the shock. This is the best WAD I've played ^^ (and I haven't played it all yet) 5/5

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
