Architecture is very dense, mazelike with a lots of windows. It is also very easy, using only shareware monsters. Unlikely there's a lot of backtracing, but I haven't much troubles with matching swiches to doors. I have some fun with this map.

This is a great map, from a very under-rated author in my opinion. These levels are constructed very well with a good amount of detail that never looks intentional but natural. Very fun, and very reminiscent of episode 1. 5/5

The map looks great with plenty of fast paced gameplay and dark archiecture but you are forced to do lots of wondering around to find the right switch, etc. I was fortunate to see the Red Key. The exit was unmarked and it was just a switch, no ExitDoor. 3.5 Stars -PC

Great tech style map with slightly more detail than the original episode. Plays very well.

A fairly average E1 replacement (you can do better than this!) but an extra star for being the only time ever two different wads of the same name were released the same day (or even same week, as far as I know).

Nicely detailed and reminiscent of episode 1 to an extent. I think one problem is somewhat uninteresting gameplay and another in the unnecessarily complicated searches for key switches and key doors. The pacing could have been done better. 2 stars. --- Starburst

This is decent, but it feels like an above-average level from 1995 rather than a good modern map. It's reminiscent of E1 but the design is much more intricate, in a bad way. You flick a switch and then have to search through the dark, maze-like level to find the door it has opened, and this gets worse as the map progresses. It's also a pushover, and the toughest monsters you face are scattered groups of demons. I spent more time navigating around than fighting.

This is one of the better episode 1 styled maps out there. Give it a shot.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
