About This File

E1M5 Reincarnated is a remake of Doom 1 Episode 1 Mission 5 for the ZDoom engine aimed at making the map look more modern, while keeping the same flawless gameplay of the original. Whether or not I accomplished this is up to the people that play it.

Also, please note that not a single piece of this map was used in the making of this level. Everything was made from scratch.

Oh noes he used 3 stealth monsters in teh hole map and now it sux :( Seriously, are they really that bad? I'm not going to hate a map just because there are a couple of stealth monsters. I don't see that many people complaining about that "Point of No Return" map Job made with masses of stealth monsters.

This map just doesn't capture what made the original E1M5 (and the whole of E1) great. Some important points of the original, like the final dark room and the window in the yellow key room are ruined. I'll admit that I loved Simplicity, but that "Spork touch" just doesn't work here. The stealth monsters don't even really bother me. On the other hand, I hated those traps that hold you until everything is dead. Still, it's not a bad map, but as a remake of E1M5, it falls short in every respect.

i swears to god the only angles used in the layout of this entire map are 45 degrees and 90 degrees. can someone please tell the entire doom modding community that this makes for hugely mediocre boring uninteresting levels?? oi, we've seen a million other WADs that look like this one. 1/5

I much preferred the e1m5 remake. It's not too hard to add some detail to a map, but it's not good that all the gameplay changes are for the worse. I don't think I need to mention the traps. I'd like to see something more original 3/5

BUG: The switch that lowers the stairs after the yellow door can be pressed multiple times (and the stairs will lower again and again). Still, very good.

Really nice, of course... although I must protest at the use of the hellknights; except for the first battle with them in the pit, every other use of them only proved annoying (a stealth knight... two appearing ones in your face... a drop down to two of them with no way out...). Anyway, I hope to see more of these. -NetNomad

Just as good as the original, however, I do wish you wouldn't use those damned stealth monsters :P

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
