It is very original, but the architecture is rather poor for a Zdoom map and I saw a HOM in the level! Still I enjoyed this map quite a bit! **** -cyber-menace

Very creative use of Zdoom features. A bit short with just one medium sized level, and many of the MS Paint monsters just seem tacky. A valiant effort, I'd rate it a 3.5 because it's better than average, but a second or third level and a little better artwork could make this a strong 4 or higher. -Scuba Steve

Like a lot of these ambitious levels it's basically System Shock Doom with Half Life sounds; you are directed by prompts from a mysterious narrator and you have to fiddle with circuit breakers etc. The environment is attractive, but as the other reviewers have stated the monsters look like something from Monty Python (particularly the Cacodemon, which is the monster from the cave in "Holy Grail"). It has the chairs from one of the Doom Alphas, a nice touch.

Outstanding atmosphere with the creepy music and such. But the monsters just hurt the overall feel to it. They belong in a cartoon port of doom, not a dank and dark spaceport. Except for the monsters this is a great start to a legendary conversion. 4 stars.

This mod has new textures, new weapons, new sounds and new monsters and it's all done quite skillfully. Very cute. But I had two problems with this map: the first is just a regret that the map is quite short. The second problem is with the monsters, because they're very cartoonish and don't fit quite well into the wad. But of course, new monsters (with new sprites) is one of the hardest things to do. Good work overall. 3.5/5 -Milian

A great mood, wonderful music and graphics(except the monsters :-)) and good use of Zdoom. Level design is'nt that great, but good enough. A worthy level. 4/5 stars.

Ok, bit slow paced and the monster sprites shouldn't been used. Good zdoom effects.

I really like Marthon!'s log (w/ pnup/pndn). It is just one map for that is a star notch down. Music could help with the atmosphere. Player class does not allow safe wad combination. It could have been better to match up to marathon1; the only perception I get is to escape from the infested labs, which I should have been dead sitting on the chair (try crypto freeze, insertion something like that). ~1/5

This level is definitely capable of earning 5 stars, but it is too short. 4 stars.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
