About This File

A partial conversion set in the mid-50's on a weapons research base deep in the heart of Greenland. You thought this would be a nice boring way to finish your career as a Marine. You thought wrong.

Hell yes! This thing is awesome and cool and stuff! If I don't take the framerate problem into consideration, I'd give this one 5 stars. Oh, hell. I'll give it 5 stars anyway because I'm a nice guy (Or something like that). :P -Xaser

Radeon 9700 Pro, Athlon 2700+ isn't enough to handle it without those horripilous slowdowns everytime. Unplayable, even with the "snow_tog" command and the 2 patches applied (no trees) (ok, it's better, but not enough). I guess that the scripts are killing the gameplay and the framerate. Thus, it should be an awesome pwad!!! Too bad! 0/5 (hey, it's NOT playable for my powerful computer, ok?) - Jive

Stop whining about speed, just download patches and play it - coz it's worth of it. Best story I've ever seen in Doom, good enough to base a cool new movie on it. Also really exceptional atmosphere and a great gameplay made by altering behavior of weapons, player and monsters. Very immersive, great locations - I love details like barricades made of tennis tables or screens in hospital. 5/5 -- Brun Ohn (faster ver. with trees and with louder voice acting would be nice, though)

Wow, I thought I knew the meaning of Choppy . . . well, let me say, it runs at about the same Calibur as Nuts.wad . . . yes . . . Nuts.wad But at least this one has the great Blood Spray, yes, the blood Spray was the only thing that made me even want to give this a single star. -Zeg-Vok

Giving it 4 stars for the overall quality of the set, but, for Christ's sake, the Cold War's been over for 15 years; stop propagandizing the commies, man!

This wad is facking awesome! I cant stop playing it but there is one problem on map 5- old base. I turn on the radio and see a black screen. I think it should be some kind of text on black screen but there is just nothing. I wana play! What can i do?

The good: -Excellent use of music to enhance ambience. -Interesting plot. The bad: -Runs like an absolute dog on my aging system (866 mhz/geforce ddr). The ugly: How does a Doom wad have worse framerates than Doom3? For all that this looks impressive, it is unplayable. Author needs to optimize--until then I consider this a beta.

Ok. The game will run on Zdoom 2.2.0,but when switching to another weapon or reloading ANY Weapon, the weapon never comes back up. In a sense, You're fucked if Zdoom 2.2.0 is being used. I don't know if a patch for this issue will ever be released, but I figured it necessary to get this message out

**** But the framerates were a pain in the ass. My computer is good enough to run Far Cry on all the details maxed out, and I get 40 FPS on it. :|

Very cool indeed (although it's only really playable with the second patch, which takes out a large number of tree objects). ^^ A well-deserved five!

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
