About This File

A partial conversion set in the mid-50's on a weapons research base deep in the heart of Greenland. You thought this would be a nice boring way to finish your career as a Marine. You thought wrong.

Pretty good! I wish it was compadible with ZdoomGL though - tested the wad/mod with 75a and it totaly fowled up. It's becuase ZdoomGL doesn't support certain map features (Like the downhill textures: Zdoom renders them fine, but ZdoomGL can't because that feature has not been implemented.) I would LOVE this mod if it were more compadible with ZdoomGL, but alas, it suffers the same fate as the RTC-3001(?) mod.

Good WAD, plenty of effort put in, but if you like the gameplay you must be a fucking masochist.

HOLY SHIT!!! This has to be the best wad I have ever played. Period. The fps is only a little choppy with the snow on, but with it off it runs fine. Keep up the excellent work dude. 5/5

Good gameplay, good storyboard, good music, atmosphere. The bad thing is the FPS is piss poor. Its like lag-o-rama. Otherwise, its awesome.

I would have appreciated something in the readme about making sure that the "Special lines block use lines" compatibility flag was turned off- I was unable to open certain doors because I had this option on! -DoomRater

Its good, but it really is too slow, on a 450MHz PII. Even with the patches, it's too slow on the generator level. And the reloading is broke sometimes.

The dude that said Action Doom sucks is actually a intravenous drug user and habitual thief. This wad is awesome, but u need a good processor, probably at least 2.0 ghz, and at least 256 mem to play it, and it will still be choppy in some places. It only lags for me in the first level. I actually hung around and tried to clear lvl 1 out, but they just keep coming and coming and coming.... The weapons are just frickin awesome!

CaH is quite a nice TC, but 3/5 because this version is slow and unstable. Go get id=15496 instead.

A beauty, and it has some very pulse-pounding (do forgive my use of such a painfully hackneyed term) gameplay. It doesn't "feel" nearly as complex as it looks. I didn't have any notable framerate problems, though I can most certainly see where others might. I, personally, see this as a design flaw. After all, this is DooM (II), not a next-gen FPS. Bearing this in mind, I'm going to give this four stars (I'd do 3.5 if I could). Anyway, rest assured that it's fun IF you can run it properly. --TDotW

I would love to give this wad a high rating, but it runs at some of the poorest framerates I have ever seen on a doomwad... worse than Grove when it was first released. The Author kindly added an option to turn off snow which can really take its toll on resources, however this does little to solve the real problem that levels consistently run extremely laggy. This wad could have been one of the better projects made for Doom, unfortunately it runs too choppy -Scuba Steve

The frame-rate problem, I think, is that there is too many trees!

This wad is the best with: weapons, monsters, stroy and all of that 5/5 :) PS: There ISN'T any framerate problem even on a 736 MHZ and 128 RAM so all of you who say they can't play it with 3.0 GHZ and 1024 RAM can shut the hell up :P

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
