About This File

Millions of demons have tasted your heavy metal in the deep, dark corridors of Phobos. Each demon killed has been sent to a reviving facility created by the demons themselves, and one by one, the demon count increases. Day by day you slaughter over a thousand demons and on those days, they are sent to the facility.

I found the map fine on UV, and yes, I got through the first trap on first try without finding the blue armor secret. No clue why is there so many complaints. Balance was just right, health and ammo well balanced. Agreed with the review saying the map gets monotonous ; it's linear and you keep moving back to areas you've already seen (albeit with new monsters and architectural changes). 4/5 map, but giving 5/5 to make up for people who'd rather lower their rating than lower their difficulty settings.

This is a good-looking level from 2004. The gameplay is tough but not impossible, although I can understand why some people hate it. If you stand in place and try to fight the monster swarms you'll be slaughtered; the trick is to keep moving, and withdraw if necessary. It looks lovely and it's one of those maps that takes ages to finish, and gets a bit monotonous as a consequence. Very good though.

One of my favorite maps, by far. Looks great, and despite what people say, plays great. It's not poorly designed, but I will warn you very much that it's a game that's NOT for the faint of heart. Turn the difficulty down, way down, if you need to, because it's brutal gameplay that doesn't pull any punches whatsoever. I beat it myself, without having to trudge at exceedingly difficult parts, on UV.

Superb map in all respects. If you can't handle it on UV (which, strangely enough, is ultraviolent), reduce the skill level and/or practice more.

Not sure what to say about this one. Some parts are great, some really bad. The first bit is ridiculous. As are some other battles (like the yellow key trap - which you can actually avoid quite easily). But some of the big fights are fun, with plenty of health and ammo. But the balance doesn't seem right. Why make the start so hard? Why fight 2 cybers early on in a cramped room when you fight 1 easy cyber later? 3/5

Reviewer above me-balance of battles? Holy cow, You really treat the quality of maps You play as a thing of utter importance. I rate the map with 4 stars. Because it does what is supposed to do-provides me with fun and entertainment. I won't go into a scrutiny about every aspect of design when it's appealing for me. -Nmn

This was WAY too easy... I need a challenge. :D This level was very difficult. Too difficult for me, but because I hate it when I get a lower score for my maps when they are too difficult, you get 5/5. Also for the amount of detail and effort put in. Well done. -Lutrov71

Totally ridiculous. The gameplay is just plain ridiculous. It's not about it being hard, but about it being ridiculous. This level is not possible on UV. Sorry. 2/5 for the effort with textures.

This has only one difficulty, and the first trap is too hard. I didn't go any further because I don't need to see another poorly designed map. By the way, nice detail and 1700 monsters does not make a map worthwhile. I'm rather surprised with this one - other Kaiser maps have great gameplay. 2/5

I really didn't like numbers 10 and 12 from Kaiser but this map changes what I think about his maps. This level is my style. I played it on UV with lots of saving and some reloading. I saved alot because the first part of the level scared me. With such a high monster count this map can seem kinda freaky but it can done and on UV. Way to go Kaiser, I'm going to download some more levels from you and hopefully thay are as fun to play and as good looking as this. 5/1/07

If you like to fight against 20 monsters, with 3 revenants among them, in a small room with your shotgun, you'll like this map. I don't. (Maybe, if the map had a reasonable amount of monsters, I'd try to survive the first room; but with more than 1,300 monsters I decided not to play it. I don't want to spend the next two weeks with this map.) 0.5/5 -Milian

I liked this, but I wish people wouldn't just throw 5 zillion monsters at the player and call it difficult. Think a bit harder about how to make your maps difficult. The double cyberdemon with the crushers in this map is a good example of what should be done.

Kaiser knows how to detail the shit out of stuff so it's too bad he chose such horrendous texture schemes. Seriously, looks are more than just a bunch of sectors pasted everywhere. Plus do you really need like 1400 monsters to make a map difficult? This moves from the realm of "challenging" into "boring".

Another HR styled map to add to the collection. A blast from start to finish, and even a surprise boss at the end. Legendary.

I find this map very good, but there are maps with worse gameplay out there. All those morons who say the gameplay sucks can just bite my dick.

Awful, really. The design is lovely but the gameplay - which is the only thing that counts when you're making levels for a ten-year-old game - is gash; it's as if the designer is trying to give the impression that he isn't a lightweight, with no though given to how the map actually plays. the first trap is just about doable if you're lucky and know what to expect, but after that it's unplayable. As for Nmn's moronic comment above, I hope you don't breed.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
