I have no idea how anyone can take this seriously. The levels are just big and ugly, and the sonic 'elements' just clash together terribly. 1/5

Very awesome. Omit the jokes and humourous stuff, the project is simply quality. Excellent example of how the maps can be made to look very good while not necessarily being filled to the rim with detailed architecture. Excellent work, master of innovative concepts! 5/5 -NMN

I really like it... Bosses are great. But sometimes it become quite boring for me. And I need to use idclip quite often because of frequent bugs. Great but could be better ;) 4/5 - Damned

If you read the text file it says the wad works in plain ZDoom as well. The only GZDoom feature I can see are the dynamic lights, which I presume were added for people who use GZDoom to play it. Still an awesome wad though.

Yes, the concept is unconventional, but the end result is a great game with some truly memorable moments. The score system and boss battles are excellent, even if sometimes tedious, and the zones themselves are varied and unique. While this megawad tends more toward puzzle/exploration levels (don't get me wrong, there's still plenty of combat to be had), if you like that sort of thing--and you have a relatively good comp--it's one hell of a ride. 5 out of 5. The only glaring flaw? No casino zone.

VERY good mapping, particularly levels like the warships go well with the story (simplictic though it is). Nice scripting, but I couldn't figure out all the secrets and some of the bosses are just impossible. My major gripe is that it seems VERY heavily biased towards the mouse users. Some of the target bosses are virtually impossible for any keyboarder; I godmoded through many of these. And do us a favor and hire a quote writer who's over 10 years old, please. Nice concept, OK execution. 4/5 -NetNomad

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
