About This File

A classic E1 style map UAC base in mountains (yay). Might make a whole E1 episode . . if I feel like it

Classic, sober, simple tech map that I'm fond of.

The flow of the map is like a river, and the backtrack (that myself is usually upset about) is intuitive to follow.

The teleport repopulation is smart enough.

I don't know about the health/ammo tightness other comments talked about because I played with a mod.

Like the name suggests, this map is like a sequel to the original Doom. The map has a very Doom II-like feel, with just enough details and complexity. It's not overly hard, but you should be thrifty with your ammo. The map is quite small and you hardly will lose your orientation. It's a nice mixture of semi-challenging fights and searching for puzzles. 3.5/5 -Milian

Isn't Return To Phobos a much older wad that covered all of Episode 1 and was in the Doomworld top 10 one year in 10 Years Of Doom?

Too stingy on ammo and health, and the backtracking is a little dull, even with teleporting enemies. Who builds a base and has a switch open the door on the opposite end? Fire that idiot architect.

Great map. I found that there wasen't really any backtracking because whenever you had to backtrack hobomaster always found a way to teleport in some baddies on your way back. Great map hobo -Marine

Yet another good map by hobomaster. Even though I don't like having to rely on secrets for health early in the map it's not such a big deal. Some of the fights were repetitive too. It should 3.5 but it's 4/5 - Belial

Nice enough little classic style map. Nothing really wrong with it, it plays well enough, but there's not all that much to get excited about either. It is however pretty much linear, with some seemingly unnecessary backtracking through the level. Ok, but no more than 3/5

A nicely detailed map. However, the gameplay is overly linear. The monster placement is at times ineffective. The traps are predictable. And most of all, being a E1 map, there is a gross absence of health. Play it yourself, hobomaster, and surely you will realise that the pacing of the level is unexciting. --- 3 Stars.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
