About This File

My first ever map, from way back when. Sucks of course, but not as bad as many people's first maps, so all's good.

Typical E1 gameplay. Lacks originality. Boring use of textures for the most part. Too easy. 3.5/5 - Belial

This is dated December 2001. It's great fun - an uncannily accurate E1-style techbase with more monsters than a real E1 level (200+). As the previous chap points out, it's Doom I all the way, which means single shotgun versus generally weak monsters. In fact apart from the end bosses the biggest baddies are demons, which keeps the level moving quickly. Ends with a little hidden trailer for id=13383.

This map isn't the best looking, and it's kind of easy - but it's fun nevertheless. 5/5. BTW if you are wondering why this was released for Doom II and not Doom I, considering that EVERYTHING in the main map except the music (which is simply because the author didin't change it) is available for Doom I, I'll give a hint: search the walls of the exit for a path to the answer!

Very damn nice map. Okey okey, not the best eyecandy but gameplay is super. Gives a nice challenge on Ultra Violence when using DooM Illustrated pack. >:)

There's not much to say about this map. It's the well-known military-/tech-base map with some computer terminals and some nukage. It's very easy, the hardest monster is the demon (except for the final) and they all don't come in masses. Optically, the map is not too intersting. There are no mistakes (maybe some minor alignment glitches) but it's nothing new either and kept quite simple. The nicest thing about this map is the built-in ad for the forthcoming wad by this author. 2/5 -Milian

I liked that a lot - it really does a superb job at recreating the E1 atmosphere.

Oldschool flava! All the necessary tricks and traps + balanced amount of ammo and health. I second that about superbness of recreating E1 atmosphere. Class -- Brun Ohn

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
