Great wad, but still can't find the yellow key... After activating the eye in the flashy room I don't have a clue on how to progress.

Starts strong and ends up using the same textures, enemies and bland rooms, i couldnt even finish the last two rooms without cheats because there was not enough ammo or health.

This reminds me of "The Sky May Be". It's creative, surreal, garish colour scheme and it sticks in the mind. But it's a disaster as a game; the strobing effect is awful and the game consists of shooting hundreds of balloons. The end battle has an impressive amphitheatre and an ominous build-up but the swirling clowns do not impress me. Perhaps the only computer game with Tim Curry (unless there was a game of "Legend").

You can't progress if you don't kill 3 clown heads? NIGGA PLEASE! I have 6 letters for you. I-D-C-L-I-P

After the first balloon attack, I wasted the rest of the other balloons. I wasn't gonna take chances.

Funny map, second part is much better, but this is a good beginning. 5/5. It's necessary gzdoom-1-01 for bug with teleporter.

A great wad. Was simultaneously frightening, atmospheric and tons of fun. Make sure you play it at night and by yourself! ****

This is great but it should be under ports/doom2/a-c instead of doom2/a-c

It started off pretty well, but as it continued it seemed to become worse. In the beginning, the encounters seemed to have a bit more meaning. Like the yellow balloon in the bathroom, or the first bouncing skull you encountered. But the later parts were deffinately lacking, and consisted of nothing but ugly undetailed rooms with huge waves of possessed balloons. I had to admit though, some of the new sound effects were cool. Especially the "You... float... too..." one. -craigs

Very solid theme, however the teleport bug\unable to get yellow key really ruins what should be an awesome wad. It would be very nice if the author released a bug fixed version, as it seems to be abit much to revert to an older version of my port for this one wad.

The idea is cool and well done and could have deserved 5 stars, but the map should have been much smaller or easier in my opinion. With this size and difficulty, it's too frustrating. -Milian

Good idea, average execution, utterly boring gameplay. Avoid this wad it is utterly boooooooring. Where's the fun in popping hundreds of balloons in that huge room? The author played too much kaiser_17, the funky colors get really annoying after a few minutes. Play this wad only up to the entrance of the large nogravity room, otherwise your eyes will get seriously hurt. 2/5 - Belial

Good wad but the first and second teleport don't work with me, open the doom builder 2 and modify the first teleport i modify the mapspottag to 0 and the other i modify the sector tag to 0, and then i can teleport to the other parts of the wad... Anyway is a good idea your map but please when you launch this wads test after launch

I pretty much agree with what Belial said up above. (with the exception of the colors part; they never bothered me). When I got to the no gravity room, I thought I was playing some lame joke wad. Boring indeed. 2 out of 5

Creepy atmosphere! Sort of Blood's "Dark Carnival" level merged with Silent Hill! I'm completely stuck on one part, though: How do you get the yellow key? I can't find it anywhere.

Probably neat, if you like acid and bad trips. Otherwise, balloon holocaust and flashing everything gets old quickly. Idea is neat, but map is generally annoying and I stopped playing at large room-with-even-more- balloons, so 2/5 too. -- Brun Ohn

The author has a lot of talent as a mapper, but he's put it to poor effect here to produce a wad that is simply not enjoyable. Keeping it simple is often the way to go if you want people to like playing your maps.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
