Scythe 2. Version 2

About This File

This is the sequel to my old megawad "Scythe". Expect better looking and bigger levels. unfortunately, the last 3 levels are missing, because I am so lazy and I haven't been satisfied with my attempts at making map28. I _might_ release the last 3 maps some time in the future, but do not count on it. (Update: the last 3 maps are now completed!)

I was VERY happy when I learned that Scythe 2 is finally completed. The final 3 levels were certainly worth the wait. As a whole, the megaWAD is an amazing experience and a must-play for every reall DooMer! 5/5 :)

2 stars. Not as good as everyone makes it out to be. I prefer the action packed levels of Scythe 1.

It's awesome to see that this wad is finally complete! Thanks so much 4 making the nasty, unbeatable black box on lvl 28 disappear!

About the exits with sector height 48, did it never occur to you people to shoot a rocket against the opposite wall? You have to kill yourself with a rocket to slide through the gap to the exit!

I was expecting something roughly medium difficulty, and up until the 20s i got it. I started noticing a trend toward the end, namely "This guy likes revenants. A LOT of revenants." Be prepared to have no fun fighting the plasma marines. Aside from that, this wad is really, really good. Looks great, plays great. The author really made the map flow loop around the level, which is pretty neat. 4 out of 5

This one never gets old. To me, it stands out as the canon against which any level design attempt should be compared, in every aspect: architecture, detail, gameplay, difficulty, atmosphere. Five Out Of Five. --rsl

Very good, must say. Very difficult at the end, as the txt said it would be. But i'm dissapointed it ends like that. Build the last 3 and quickly, you have us drooling in anticipation

Pretty good stuff. I absolutely loved the levels up until the vine/Aztec episode, which is when it became less fun and more U TOOK A STEP HAVE SUM REVENANTS LOL!11 Also, fuck Mr X. Good detail, good challenge (for awhile), and good gameplay. 4/5 --Ceeb

Excellent. Great music, level detail, and the five level episode idea is brilliant. Maps 13, 16, and 20 were especially impressive. But why does every megawad have to end up in hell? I hated those last two levels, but loved most of the rest. The only other issue I had with it was the slight overusage of the "omg 1029301 revenants" trap. There are other ways to make a wad difficult than hordes upon hordes of revenants. 4/5

It is a shame this wad was not put through either deepseas or Doombuilders error checker. Inexcusable with new wads like this. There are a number of errors present which could be easily fixed. If it wasn't for these errors I would give it 5\5. As such 3.8\5.

Some levels are okay looking or ugly as hell, gameplay is overall decent, and some of the midis are annoying. Still, despite the flaws, overall is "4 stars - pretty darn good" and worth a shot. Its also great for coop.

It's good. Brilliant layouts, challenging and exciting. I still prefer the original. I don't like the Egyptian themes though- nonetheless, great/ 4/5

I wanted to like this wad more, but starting at level 23 it goes into that "slaughter" or whatever style that I am not into at all. The creator also seems to have some strange love affair with revenants, as there seems to be five of them around every corner. The architecture is great throughout. The first 22 levels are challenging and great to play, it's just a shame that the rest are so frustrating and disappointing. Scythe 1 might be more to my liking. Oh yeah, and fuck those stupid marine enemies. 3/5

I kind of wished the maps 28, 29 and 30 were finished but still, it's another kick-ass wad with kick-your-ass difficulty. :)

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
