This pales in comparison with other works of this author, but in absolute terms it's still damn good. We can see the connected layouts that are trademark of this author, and smooth gameplay, but there's still lots to improve in visuals department. MAP06 is gimmicky, but in a good way and utilizes Doom features in ways that are not often seen to create an adventure style "tricks & traps" sort of map. The story unfolds in your imagination only - you're still the Doomguy, not James Bond.

Not too bad, but weird HOM when played under Doom95. Nice structuring, and pretty cool puzzles. 3/5 -r_rr.

Very good, though not highly polished. There are some very empty areas, and non-obvious progression here and there, and it suffers from too little variety in monsters (yeah yeah, it's because of the "story", but a background story shouldn't restrict gameplay). However, it shows a lot od creativity and more imagination than most wads, and is very well worth downloading.

This is a good mapset with excellent gameplay for the most part. It's good to see someone creatively using just the human monsters. There are problems however. I got stuck at least three times in places I had to clip to get out of, such as the warehousey bit on map05. It clearly needed more playtesting. It doesn't feel quite polished enough. Some areas also feel quite vague. So hit and miss, but definitely something to build on. - pritch

This gets better as it goes along. Level one is trivial, and level two is very wandery and dull, although it has a good-looking "crate maze". However the last couple of levels in particular are fun blasts. I like the idea of restricting the design to just a few monsters - I eagerly await the first good zombieman-only level - and it makes the appearance of the boss baddies on level five (which would be unimpressive in any other map) much more effective than otherwise.

It's an excellant change of pace and shows how a great idea can actually be brought to fruition. Not your typical levelset, but better than most stuff out there.-GreazyShorts

Don't let the bland first level fool you, this is a very good levelset. The levels keep getting better, I especially liked level 5. The wad uses a small selection of monsters and textures, but manages to shine with some excellent gameplay and fascinating architecture. The mood in these levels is something of its own, I haven't played a wad like this before. 4 stars

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
