Italian DooM - Episodio 1

About This File

Why the name "Italian DooM"?! Because it was made by three Italian Doomers, grouped in the so-called "Italian Team". But there's more: in the .WAD there are some new nice features too, such as messages in Italian... with the literal translation in English below, of course! This .WAD is ZDoom-oriented, so it works just with ZDoom, particularly with versions higher than 2.0.63a, since the .WAD contains new features, like DECORATE and DECALDEF lumps, which are supported only by the last versions of this source port. The .WAD contains 8 maps, one of which is a secret map (see "Levels Information" below for further info about the sequence of levels, its authors and more). Other features of this .WAD are: - two new monsters: a strengthened "CyberMasterMind" and the "Arachnophyte"! - new graphics (textures, flats, sprites, pictures, etc.); - new background musics. "Italian DooM" is a .WAD for Single Player mode (SP), although there are Cooperative and Deathmatch starts in some maps. Levels can be beated in sequence or from scratch. Playing the levels in sequence means following the story, of course. Play it and discover the new "Italian DooM": the first episode, of course!

I cannot say it was bad, but it wasn't great either.

What we have here is map-set of 8 levels, mostly with average quality, average scripting and several bugs. There are some pits with no escape, some buttons are not working properly so there were some cases, where I had to use IDCLIP to continue.

Really great fun I had finishing this! Actually, the funny thing is that I had to debug scripts to continue to some level. I made the mistake to press more than once at a broken console with the screwdriver to repair it and there was Energy++ (or Power?) or something in the script when you did that, so energy went to 3 instead of 2 while another button needs Energy = 2 for some door to open. Energy = 2 would be safer there ;P

This .WAD is simply awesome: great graphics, nice gameplay, perfectly balanced difficulty! I must congratulate Italian DooM and its project-leader Ismaele. :) It's a pity he decided to retire from mapping! :(

I find some parts to be a little cheap. Not a bad set maps I guess. 4/30/07

well a ceiling went down on me for no apparent reasson when i found light amplification goggles.... I stopped playing after that. Maybe it's a good wad, maybe not, but your dumb crushing trap made me unwilling to find out. So i give it an average score of 3/5.

I don't like traps like the red keycard where you think you're supposed to take it, only to be trapped forever and lots of cacodemons spawning. If there's some trick of getting out of it I sure didn't find it, tried looking for stuff to shoot and humping walls, but to no avail. Up until that point the WAD was good. 3/5.

This wad was the first wad level set released in almost a month and a half due to Katrina, and because of that, earns an automatic 5 stars. [Though the wad itself is great work, and definately earns most of the rating I give it] God bless you guys for finally wetting the SP players appetite.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
