About This File

This is a huge giant map thtat try to emulate ambients of the real life, including Castle, Subway, City, and some more. All of them only using DooM original textures.

WTF is with all of the negative reviews? Once you get past the stupid caves it's pretty awesome. But don't try to kill every monster, takes too long.

1,700 Monsters on UV. Hardly any health. Folks, this map sucks.

Pretty fun if you turn on IDDQD, IDFA, IDCLIP, and fly around with zdoom.

some very nice areas though too big, the fights are often boring, three maps instead of one would have been better, hard to vote because I like it and I hate it 2.5/5

Pro: Nice architecture, large, high monster count if you like it Con: many texture-only-doors, health is a disaster, ammo partially low, masses of (teleporting) monster groups over and over again -> this is a problem if you are constantly at "sudden death mode" and have low ammo (esp. ammo eaters like Barons, Manc., Revn., AV). So it's only a 3/5 from the Cacodemon.

A must have, if anything, for the sheer size and monster count. Some trap-fights are too trial and error, though.

Well, actually this is fun for speedrunners: you can literally run past most monsters and skip enormous portions of the level. There are a couple of spots where you must make a stand or take damage though... 3/5

It's not a bad effort, but more health would help. Either that, or encourage the player to /summon bunches of medikits every so often. Alternately, a Deus Vult style split mapset with the whole one at the end would be a good idea. I like this map, but it is flawed. Good try.

Rated 4.8, MAP01. Massive single level, large castle, and city. Have Dog. Blockmap overruns the wad limits (x4). Will play on prboom, DoomLegacy 1.44 ( 1.43 crashes ). Bit of map is off the blockmap, and is walk-thru. Doom style play, traps, large waves of monsters. Great castle, seems to be from actual example.

Too hard?. Unplayable?. Oh, come on, I completed it on Hurt me plenty with almost no problems, this map is fucking perfect, at least for my tastes. Nice layout, enough ammo (you don't need to kill all monsters. You also don't have to enter into all areas, such as the stadium) and enough health. I would definitely love to play this on coop. And for those who say this map is shit, you should try to do something better first, then talk. Your comments are shit, not the map. 5/5.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
