About This File

32 maps no bigger than 1024 X 1024. Some maps have areas outside the 1024 X 1024 block but they are not part of the playing area. The idea was to focus on quick and fun gameplay.

Really interesting concept, beautiful maps... Gamplay-wise, too many life-sucking enemies + too cramped + too little health = much too difficult for me. Even on easy skills. Bummer. -Bishop

Excellent. Gets really hard near the end, but I like that :) Just the right amount of detail.

Proves that maps don't have to be huge and epic to be incredibly fun. Like any community project, this is a bit of a mixed bag, but there were only one or two levels I really didn't like. Makes me excited for the next 1024 release. 5/5

An interesting concept, executed well. Some of these maps are really harsh, but IMHO that's a feature, not a bug.

Not bad, but most maps are average, and the rest are bad. It should be played, just because some levels are really creative, and there are a few that are REALLY awesome, like map 32. Map 30 is the best last level I've ever played IMO, along with Kama Sutra's. Most maps were just smaller versions of maps.

Some very nice and some not so nice maps in this pack! If you can get lost in a map only 1024*1024 in size, something has to be seriously wrong *coughmap22cough*. Oh and map30 is pure shit!!! 3/5

Nice map, although some of them seem too small. Good job. :)

Never knew such nice and fun maps could be made with 1024*1024 format. 32 of them too! Nice levels if you are bored during a coffee break, or if you are tired of huge, sprawling levels. 5 stars!

I've got to say personally, I like this 1024 megawad the least of the bunch. But it has many very good maps, and can be a good ground for how to expand a level without making things cramped.

Great idea, great execution. There are many fun, challenging, creative little maps here. The difficulty does increase as it goes on, of course. Some maps on UV can be downright intense. The health is sparse at times. I never really had an issue with ammo though. And I didn't really have too many problems on map 30. A few of the other maps I had a lot more difficulty with. A couple of the maps are glitchy on zDoom. Not perfect, but overall definitely worth playing. 4/5

Seems to be mostly experimental play amongst levels where you HAVE to take damage, get bounced around by jagged edges, and can't see what you're shooting at because of height variation. At least one map doesn't actually work in ZDoom. Some great maps here (5,14,20) but most are skippable. MAP30 is idiotic, nobody could finish that. 2/5

Clever, charming, and even kind of cute, "Congestion 1024" is one of the more creative WADs out there. I never expected a bunch of small-medium maps with only 1024x1024 of playing space to be entertaining, but this proved me wrong! I also love the new music :). Great work! 5/5

Started off impressively, but got progressively worse. Some of the last maps are downright broken, and several maps you can't get all 100%. A couple of the last levels your survival depended more on luck than skill, which is quite frustrating. Probably the best map on there is map 32, though. It's unfortunate; there are some really great maps, but the terrible maps really bring down the overall experience.

I agree with some of the points made by previous reviewers: a few gems here(16,26,32), but also alot of average/annoying (30?) or even downright buggy maps (23). The thought I had often while playing was: it's a #*&!@ing shooter, so why is the ammo that sadistically tight ?! But that seems to be quite trendy nowadays... 3.5 rounded to 4*

^ There's not a lot that can be done about that, given the point of the project. =P Anyway, this is a fantastic set of maps...the small sizes of the maps make for intense gameplay, and it can be entirely completed in less than a couple hours. Beautiful work! 5/5

There are alot of Congestion problems in this wad. Space can be very limited in some of the levels. This is a very hard wad to play due to the amount of Former Humans and tougher monsters and lack of health in some maps. Most of the levels look great but some are a bit overdone. This wad is worth the download, it provides an excellent challenge. 4 Stars -pc

Soulless. Most levels of mediocre quality, with a few gems in-between. For the majority, the gameplay gets lost between clusters of useless and aesthetically displeasing detail. Someone has to stand up for the road-kills (unavoidable medikits) and overuse of endangered species (arch-viles).

Much buggier than it should be, given the small size of the maps.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
