About This File

Hoping to be as epic as nuts.wad, but not in a good way.

It's even too slow from the beginning. I had accidentally hit the one monster by blasting a BFG to wake up any possible monsters, to see that everything was killed ;P To the left if you IDCLIP there are 57601 bodies splattered now. Then, I spend a lot of time with that, so I must be stupid. 0/5 (perhaps my lowest vote) - Optimus

57,601 monsters - why not 57,602, or 57,603? You start in part of a big square room, and the monsters are all in a block outside the room. On my machine it ran at about the same speed as Driller or Cholo on my ZX Spectrum, so I have no idea if you fight the monsters of if it's a joke, i.e. there are lots of monsters but you never meet them (the intro text demands that you check the monster count, and that sounds fishy to me). One star because I am high on meths.

POS. And I don't mean "point of sale". Someone misunderstood what Nuts.wad was about.

What's the good of having thousands of monsters if you can't even face them? At first, I thought the one zombieman there was all 50,000 of them all pasted on top of each other. That actually would have been cool.

First off, you will notice that there are half as many monsters as in NUTS (which is still a lot) and that you cannot get to them. Speaking on a framerate level, this is great, but it isn't as insane because of that. Even then, it will be impossible to trump nuts because it has already benn trumped by Nuts III's 12,263 monsters. Unless you were to release something with about 15,000+ monsters, I'm going to pass on this one.

Pointless unplayable crap - 57,601 monsters... I guess this is why Wills gets slated often.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
