About This File

This is a 32 map wad with various changes in the looking of the Doom 2. Most of the graphics were changed, as well as the weapons and some enemies. It has new enemies and weapons for ZDoom, increasing the gameplay. It also brings some new enemies for Doomsday Engine.

This ain't bad at all, really. I love the arseload of extra stuff here although I can see why some people don't like them. Haven't yet gotten to the good levels but I really dig this so far

Would have been much better if it wasn't for the large ammounts of (mostly) useless new enemies and weapons. If the levels features the decorations, textures, BUT, stock doom weapons and enemies, this thing would have been much better. 4 stars for the effort, nevertheless.

I liked it, though the game would crash ocassionally with Zdoom .96X. Some of the weapons could have been better, and I was glad to see that you had stopped making pick up messages that looked as though they were made by a 13 year old. The hidden pornography could have definately been better though, they were rather low quality. -Craigs

Aside from the occaisonal crash, random difficulty scattered throughout maps (a cyberdemon in a secret, after a load of zombies?) and the porn (stops my brother playing, and is pretty low quality) this wad is excellent. Lots of things to throw around and blow things up with, and many monsters to be blown about. 5 from me, for effort and fun value alone. -Phobus

Good WAD, loved new weapons, most of the new baddies and all the levels, but some of the bosses were over used (vixen)and it sucked off hell lot of the gameplay. There was too much inventory items too...but it seems I'll keep playing on this!Good work, Daniel 4/5 - Trollmann

It's a unique WAD, there's nothing like it out there, and I found the levels very enjoyable. The vast array of new material is mostly ripped from other sources, but weapon balance apart, they work rather well. The level design and music are both very good. The author's attitude to DW leaves much to be desired and I'm not surprised the WAD didn't make the Cacowards; nonetheless a lot of effort clearly went into it and it's well worth a look. 4/5.

A great wad which has practically deamed itself a classic, and which certainly diserves a download by any tasteful doomer. -- Triple-X

I liked it, but it could be better. For example, I loved the music on map 28 and map 29, but both maps (especially map 29) are sorta small. The city themed maps were awesome, I think a little scripting would make it even better (like a sports game of a group of demons vs. a group of zombies) in the soccer field. Anyways, I would like to give this map a 4/5. However, since the rating is a 3.5 /5, I will give it a 5/5 to make it closer to a 4/5.

awesome wad, the music sounds very chilling and the insane difficulty in later levels makes this worth the download!

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
