Terrifying, without a doubt. I punched the thing once and lived! If there was some way to make the forest endless (since I'd usually run to the level border and wait for it there, as to limit the angles I could be attacked from), it would probably be the scariest, and possibly hardest level ever. 4/5 -VV

This didn't scare me as much as Midnight Island. (I played it first) then after Ghoul 3 didn't scare me, i played this. Not the same effect. 4

Ha. Haha. The design is similar to the original level in the series - it's a big dark spooky forest - but it's a subtler and more terrifying experience, because the ghoul doesn't just rush straight at you as before. The sprite is less gruesome this time but the overall experience is superior. I played this whilst listening to the C&C club version of Mariah Carey's "Anytime You Need A Friend", and the combination of ghoulish screams plus the sound effects in the wad terrified me.

It's pretty damn good but the gameplay dies out after the first time.

Spookier than the first one. Still a lame gimmick, and more startling than scary. Not really, um, a level actually.

This is effective as a very scary wad, as was its intention. It's succeeds greatly (I nearly shit myself because I was sitting alone wearing headphones). Excellent work 5/5

You've got crappy looking copy and pasted trees in this wad. The ghoul' sounds for it are as buggy as ever. 0/5

What, just some picture you found on the internet cropped off and some sounds of you screaming into the microphone and hardly any more ammo than in TGF1? I'd have more fun pissing off my landlord and have her scream at me. Wait, I understand why it's so shitty now, the idea only took a few hours to implement.

Better than the first by far because you don't know where it's gonna come getcha from, and you start in the middle. The ghost is scarier than the skull I think.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
